Where do I begin to overhaul my pool and concrete patio area?

We have an old pool and hot tub surrounded by concrete. We also have an adjacent koi pond with fountain. The entire area gives us nothing but headaches: constant leaks and plumbing issues, cracked concrete, plus the styling is very out of date. Complicating everything is that the pool and patio area are on a hillside with potential erosion issues.

Where do we start to begin this project? We’re thinking about replacing the koi pond with an outdoor kitchen, ripping out the pool, hot tub and concrete completely and starting over.

Should we begin by hiring a landscape architect? Would a landscape architect have the technical expertise needed given the structural engineering issues? Or is a contractor sufficient? We’re not even sure what we want, or what it would cost, so we don’t know where to begin with getting ideas and estimating cost.

My opinion would be to start with a pool company or a general contractor that does pools. A landscape architect may not have the knowledge of how the eroding ground may affect the pool. Unless you mean to not replace/repair the pool. In which case, yes, a landscape architect.
