I have been seeing so many different tile installations on jobsites and everyone has their own way of doing things. Recently I have been installing tiles in tubs and showers that go all the way to the ceiling. I normally measure the height off the top of the tub to the ceiling and see how my pattern will lay out. Make sure the rows are level and the top does not have a tiny sliver at ceiling and adjust as necessary. I would Typically start at the bottom and work my way up. I ran into an oldschool Italian tile installer and he said he starts at the ceiling and works his way down. Just curious to see other peoples techiques.
We generaly start and work bottom to top, if there is a border or a band it seems less risky to lay it out from bottom up. We still start center of room on our tile for floors and I have seen recently more and more installers start at one wall and work to the other but I prefer my installers to stick to what we know works.
Start from the out side edge in, from botom to top. Start with level edge and base line.
If you have out side edge, bullnose, trim, you make your cuts inside. Set tiles from botom as some tiles are heavy.
Always start at bottom and work your way up.
On standard three by five shower the back wall we always start center and bottom to top so we have equal cuts in the corner then side walls we start front to back & bottom to top so you also have equal cut in corner the combined corner cuts are usally just over a full tile looks great… Some times I will modify first row tile height to acomidate nitche or deco band.
For floors we look for the most obvious long wall and try to work full tile towards cabinet to hide cuts under toe kick or in area less noticable like behind couches or entertainment centers. If no obvious option go back to center of room with equal cuts around perimeter.
Always start at the bottom and stack vertically. Keep your stack to a minimum of 4 runs. This will insure you have no compression problems due to weight.
I would say starting install the tile roof from the bottom to top
You should start tilng from the bottom.
Always start at the bottom and work up
If you don’t have a specific design on tile, you start from bottom.
If you have a design … than you can start anywhere you want to, depends on the design.
That would depend on the individual, I find it better to measure out the tile using the specific spacer then build from the bottom up.
you lay out your wall or floor first.
i.e. get your centre lines and work from the centre.
that way any cut tile on the ends will be the same.
that’s how my tiler does it and it always looks perfect.
hope that helps.
