According to US Department of Energy’s website, radiant heating or otherwise known as underfloor radiant heating is more efficient than baseboard heating, and more efficient than forced-air heating, due to the fact that in underfloor heating, no energy is lost through ducts. The flexibility of running this type of heating through a variety of sources (solar, gas, etc.), gives it an advantage.
Bear in mind though that good insulation and a system that is well designed will significantly magnify efficiency gains.
We use the Schluter System. Their product and their warranty are awesome.
Chris,
When it comes to heated floors, there are two main types: hydronic (water-based) and electric.
A hydronic system requires huge upfront costs, because of the investment required to install boilers, pumps, and flooring clearance for the tubing. But more importantly, a hydronic system opens a home up to the possibility of a system rupture, which could mean tens of thousands of dollars in water damage. Trust me, it’s not a pretty sight.
A properly installed electric floor heating system, like those available from WarmlyYours, means safe and cost efficient floor heating for you and your family for many years to come. That’s why we’re able to put our No-Nonsense Warranty on products like the TempZone Flex Roll—because the product works and it works for years and years.
