Who can do a formaldehyde test for me?

I need to have some newly installed flooring tested and I have no idea where to start.

Indoor air quality tests can be performed by certified contractors. Many HVAC contractors offer the service, or look for general contractors specializing in air quality and environmental testing. Green building standards have special requirements for indoor air quality. Green building contractors may also be able to perform a formaldehyde test.

There are labs that will test for formaldehyde. I’m not sure how much it would cost but they can be found on-line pretty easily. I guess my question to you would be, Why would you want to test for formaldehyde? A great deal of flooring made today contains formaldehyde as it’s in the glue that holds the structure of the flooring together. However, this really isn’t a danger to humans as the formaldehyde is under a layer of lamented wood and not exposed. It would only be harmful if it were burnt and of course for the workers that cut the material. There have been some brands of flooring recalled because of toxic levels of formaldehyde, a quick internet search should tell you if your brand is one of those. Hope this helps, best of luck! Jay
