My contractor’s team dropped the slab for my counter and broke it. The GC is supposed to call me today to discuss next steps. Who should pay for the cost of replacing the slab? Should there have been a clause in the contract covering this?
If you paid your contractor for all materials and labor they are responsible for replacing it. They dropped it.
Ideally, yes, there should be a clause in the contract covering this. However, any ethical contractor will cover items damaged by their employees. Hopefully when he calls it is to go over scheduling issues and getting the slab replaced, not asking you to cover the costs. Good luck.
Under a normal contract it should be the responsibility of whomever is installing the material. Not really sure how it would be your responsibility to pay for more material that you didn’t drop and break.
If your contractor dropped it, then he should replace it, simple as that. Granted it was an accident & if you feel like contributing a little because you like your contractor then do so, but it is not your responsibility.
