Who should I hire to install my Automatic Home Standby Generator? HVAC or Electrical Contractor?

A Electrical Contractor. not HVAC contractors are not lic. to install a electrical system.
Look for authorized Dealers (Generac Generators) they have been trained in they installs

I have personally installed several back up generators. The generator has to be installed with the use of a safety relay. This a breaker box that is installed between the generator and the utility breaker box. The safety relay interrupts the power supply if there is a surge either from the generator or the utility power line. It insures that power can not enter the home from both places at the same time as well as protect both power sources from a surge originated by the other systems, as both systems are wired together in your homes breaker box. That all being said I would strongly recommend you have a licensed electrician install it for you for safety as well as functionality.

You should hire a Electrical Licensed contractor and make sure to check his license and insurance.

Electrical contractor

We are an authorized Generac Dealer with factory trained and certified technicians. We know how to both install and maintain your Generator.

While it is true that a licensed electrician should perform your install, not all have the expertise to properly do so or to service and/or repair your product should the need arise.

Some HVAC contractors do in fact employ both licensed electricians and plumbers for the gas line installation. As in anything else, perform your due diligence.

  1. Seek a licensed electrician.
  2. Prefer an authorized dealer and installer for the product that you choose.
  3. Insure that a proper permit is acquired.

I would call Mike Holmes from Holmes Heating and air LLC 303 994 5012 he is licensed and insured with 20 years of experience.

You should always use a licensed electrical contractor for the generator wiring as well as a licensed plumbing contractor for the gas, unless using propane. The propane company would normally make the connections.
