Place a bucket beneath the garage disposal if the disposal is working but water is coming from the dishwasher air gap. Pull the dishwasher drain line from the side of the garbage disposal and place it in the bucket. The drain line runs from the disposal, up to the air gap and back down to the dishwasher. Insert a screwdriver into the dishwasher drain line opening to see if the drain line plug is still in the disposal. If the plug is still in the disposal, the water draining from the dishwasher has nowhere to go but out the air gap. Tap the screwdriver handle with a mallet to remove the plug. Push the drain line back onto the disposal. Use tongs to remove the plastic plug from inside the disposal.
If your dishwasher leaves spots or film, or just does a poor job of cleaning
Cracked valve, bad gasket, or loose connection. If you have any more detailed information I could help more. Kevin
I believe you are referring to your air gap connection on top of the counter , next to the faucet. The airgap is required by code to prevent a direct connection of your dishwasher to the sewer. Your discharge hose from the dishwasher is connected to the bottom of the air gap , and then the airgap is connected to the inlet on your garbage disposal with a black rubber hose. If your air gap is flooding when you run the dishwasher then you have a clog in the air gap, or the black rubber hose that goes to the garbage disposal. Sometimes the inlet on the garbage disposal can get packed with food debris and cause a blockage.
