This week we took a deep dive into building permits to see what the future holds for Austin’s food scene. Building permits often provide the first indication that something is brewing, and after scanning through close to 11,000 building permits from Austin since the beginning of the year we found 119 related to restaurants.

We picked the 7 projects we found the most interesting. All of them are second, third, or fourth locations for already popular restaurants and chefs. See a restaurant that is not on the list? Have any thoughts to share with us? Let us know.

1. Sway

Sway, a modern Thai restaurant, applied for a building permit on February 8th. The new space will be located at 11501 Rock Rose Avenue.  The proposed 5,800 square foot restaurant will have an occupancy of 202 and is estimated to cost $1.4 million to construct.
