Twice a month, we search through hundreds of thousands of building permits to bring to you a few of the most interesting construction projects happening across the country. This week, we follow new office renovations and warehouse build-outs for big-name tech companies along the west coast.
1) New Amazon Warehouse Slated for Salem, Oregon

Amazon received approval to move forward with the construction of its first Fulfillment Center in Oregon earlier this year, and it looks like the company has no plans to slow its expansion. Our data shows that a second industrial warehouse is in the planning stages in Salem, just 2 hours south of Troutdale where the first is already under construction. According to the building permits, the Salem warehouse will occupy 1,018,020 square-feet of space, and will be larger than the 855,000 square-foot Troutdale Fulfillment Center.

2) Fitbit Office Expansion in SOMA, San Francisco

New permits filed show that the fitness company Fitbit is planning to expand into a building at 40 Jessie Street in the SOMA district, between Market Street and Mission Street. The project involves construction across seven stories from the ground floor to the sixth floor, and job values from permits show the renovation will cost more than $6 million. The office is being redesigned by Perkins + Will, who has completed numerous transformative offices and projects in San Francisco, including the San Francisco Ferry Building and Bay Area Metro Center.

3) Google Planning to Occupy Two Floors of Adobe Plaza, Seattle

Last year Google announced it would be moving from their current office in Fremont into a new 4-building complex in the South Lake Union neighborhood when it is completed. The building permit filed July 28th details $2.5 million in renovations to the second and fourth floors of the Adobe Plaza.

4) Snap Inc.’s Big Expansion in Santa Monica

Snap Inc, the parent company of the popular social media app Snapchat, has been all over the news this year with one of the most anticipated public offering in years in March, followed by news of its stock falling below its IPO price in July. There’s another reason why Snap Inc is causing a ruckus in Los Angeles; its sprawling expansion into Venice Beach’s available real estate. Building permits show renovations at a handful of future Snapchat offices by the Santa Monica airport, including 3340 Ocean Park Blvd, 2850 Ocean Blvd, 3000 31st Street, 2772 N Donald Douglas Loop, and 2800 N Donald Douglas Loop.
