Amazon Bookstore Opening in Westfield Century City, First in LA

Construction is underway for a 5,227 square-foot Amazon bookstore in LA’s Westfield Century City shopping complex, which is currently undergoing a $1 billion makeover. Since launching its first brick and mortar bookstore in Seattle in 2015, Amazon has opened 7 stores to date, with an additional 6 coming soon.

Boston WeWork Office Expands into 4th Floor

A permit filed on May 11 shows the popular WeWork office in on Saint James St., Boston is undergoing a $2 million renovation and will be expanding into the 4th floor by building additional office space. The St. James office is one of four WeWork co-working spaces in Boston.

Wisconsin-Based Beef Snack Company Jack Links To Build HQ in Minneapolis

According to a permit valued at $19.3 million filed on June 2, Jack Links Beef Jerky is opening a headquarter office in downtown Minneapolis.  The Star Tribune reports the Wisconsin-based beef snack company hopes to rebrand and expand its product lines and target markets.  The new office will offer a cafe, restaurant, and contemporary work spaces to create a creative and modern environment for their employees.

SF Ferry Terminal Expansion Moves Forward

New construction to expand Pier 2 of the South Basin of the Downtown Ferry Terminal is underway.  Two permits pulled on May 26 for a combined project value of $5.8 million includes plans for a new plaza, the extension of the bayside promenade, and a pedestrian bridge.

RESIDENTIAL HIGH RISES


Vista Tower, Luxury Residence in Chicago Breaks Ground

A permit for $100 million was pulled on May 12 to build out floors 1-95 of one of the three interconnected high-rises that make the Vista Tower complex, designed by renowned architect Jeanne Gang and scheduled to be the tallest building designed by a woman. This is the fifth permit to be issued for the property, bringing the total project value for the tower to $150 million. Delivery is set for 2020.

Construction Begins on 76-story Residential Tower Designed by Rafael Viñoly

On June 7, a $64 million permit was pulled to begin construction on the partial superstructure for levels 4 to the underside of level 8 for the proposed 76-story (80 level) residential tower in Chicago. The tower is scheduled to have 792 dwelling units and 12 levels of parking.
