The construction market saw a decline in January 2025 compared to January 2024. Both new construction and alteration activity experienced year-over-year decreases.
New Construction Year-over-Year Change: -7.74%
Alterations Year-over-Year Change: -3.69%


Regionally, all of them experienced declines year-over-year with the exception of alteration activity in the Pacific region.
Pacific New Construction: -1.9%; Alterations: +6.1%
Southwest New Construction: -17.4%; Alterations: -2.4%
Midwest New Construction: -18.5%; Alterations: -16.7%
Southeast New Construction: -12.4%; Alterations: -21.0%
Northeast New Construction: -4.6%; Alterations: -4.7%


For Mechanical, Electrical, & Plumbing (MEP) we saw a nominal increase for Mechanical year-over-year, but a decline for both Electrical and Plumbing
Mechanical (HVAC) Year-over-Year Change: +0.6%
Electrical Year-over-Year Change: -3.3%
Plumbing Year-over-Year Change: -5.5%

ADU activity remains positive year-over-year, however it continues it’s downtrend month-over-month. Solar installations also continue their decline both year-over-year and month-over-month,
ADU year-over-year change: +10.4%; Month-over-month change: -8.4%
Solar year-over-year change: -13.2%; Month-over-month change: -8.6%
