The Best Residential Contractors in Los Angeles

September 8, 2017 by Jack Cookson 1 Comment

Residential remodels are known for busting schedules and budgets. Partnering with the wrong contractor can make or break a kitchen or bathroom renovation, and make it impossible to enjoy your home during construction. A high-end real estate market, Los Angeles has a crowded and confusing remodel contractor landscape. We have identified the best of the best.

10) Lux Builders & Remodeling

Website | (310) 796-1700 | 1140 Highland Ave #211 Manhattan Beach CA 90266

Lux Builders & Remodeling is owned by Sagi Paul, a real estate convert who obtained his contractor license in 2005. In just over a decade, the family-run company has completed hundreds of residential projects, ranging from interior renovations to ground-up design-build custom homes. Through their network of vetted vendors and suppliers, Lux Builders & Remodeling are able to provide high-end finishes and expert craftsmanship without surpassing the client’s budget. Working out of their Manhattan Beach office, the firm has become experienced in maximizing interior space without sacrificing outdoor living under the Southern California sun.

In Manhattan Beach, Lux Builders & Remodeling turned a modest bathroom into a Master retreat. Slate floor tiles run throughout the space into the separate toilet room. The vanity features dual sinks, traditional, wood-slat cabinetry, and a beveled marble countertop. A generously sized steam shower appears even bigger with large vertical stone along the walls, and hexagon tile in the same palette on the floor and ceiling. A window facing into the lot affords daylight and privacy, just above the freestanding soaking tub. At a home in Redondo Beach, Lux Builders & Remodeling created an addition to house a traditional kitchen with white, subway tile backsplashes, and stainless steel chef-quality appliances. Two double windows and a skylight make the space bright and airy.

9) SPS Builders

Website | (310) 773-7791 | 2005 19th st Santa Monica CA 90404

Chris Pilgard and Michael Scott, co-founders of SPS Builders, have leveraged their expertise in architecture and custom fabrication to lead their team since 2012. SPS Builders brings their knowledge of corporate solutions to residential remodels in order to keep schedules and budgets on track.

SPS Builders remodeled the kitchen and bathrooms of a 3,400 square-foot home in San Marino. The kitchen has a mid-century modern vibe with flat-faced wood-grain cabinetry. The long freestanding island has waterfall edge marble on both ends, and criss-crosses with a warm wood dining table. Stainless steel appliances, including a chef’s range and a wine refrigerator, complete the space, perfect for entertaining. SPS Builders worked with the architects of Studio Benson to bring similar finishes to a completely different kitchen in Sherman Oaks. This wide galley kitchen looks bigger with flat-faced wood cabinetry, and white uppers and backsplashes beneath a large recessed skylight. A glass wall at one end opens onto a patio and outdoor dining room with a fireplace, expanding the visual and functional space.

8) Eden Builders

Website | (818) 239-4579 21781 Ventura Blvd | 609 Woodland Hills CA 91364

The team can provide design inspiration and also work with clients who already have a clear notion of what they want out of a remodel.

Travel blogger Laura Lily enlisted Eden Builders for a remodel of her condo kitchen. The original finishes were low-end and outdated. The small apartment space also posed a challenge. A unified wraparound quartz countertop and herringbone backsplash in a similar colorway visually broaden the kitchen. White flat-faced cabinetry with minimal hardware complete the clean design and make the most of abundant natural light coming through the windows. The slim profiles of the hidden range hood and electric cooktop add functionality without breaking up the space. Eden Builders managed to protect the rest of the space by carefully hanging plastic drapes during construction.

7) Four Seasons Builders

Four Seasons Builders remodeled a kitchen on Le Droit Drive in South Pasadena. At the center of the kitchen is an island that can seat six around its Carrara marble surface. Around the perimeter of the room, a gray lantern tile backsplash pops against white grout and white shaker cabinets. Beneath one of the kitchen’s three windows, a buffet with integrated wine storage can serve as an additional workspace for cooking or recipe writing. Under an even larger window sits a farm sink with deep bronze fixtures. Tan veins in the countertops pick up colors in the washed wood flooring.

Carrara marble countertops and floors, stainless steel appliances, and chrome fixtures are a few of the luxurious touches in this Hancock Park kitchen. Modaa Construction used under mount lighting and seamless integration of appliances into the cabinetry make for a sleek, modern design while the white shaker cabinets add a traditional element. The white subway tile backsplash and glass cabinet uppers add visual depth and bounce daylight from a window facing into the garden. In West Hollywood, Modaa Construction created a contemporary and sleek master bathroom. From the marble shower with bench seating to the antique bronze mirrors and faucets, all of the finishes say luxury. An inlaid floor tile pattern picks up on the dark woods of the cabinets and the white and gray of the Carrara marble vanity. The pattern is repeated in a built-in shower shelf.

5) Farnsworth Builders

Farnsworth Builders transformed an outdated Venice bathroom. In place of wallpaper and the original blue sink and bathtub, the team brought in weathered gray tile for the walls and inside the shower. Dark vessel sinks pop against a light stone counter. Both catch the light from the skylight and clerestory window above. A white soaking tub completes the luxurious design. In one Mar Vista home, Farnsworth Builders remodeled a kitchen and master bath, updating both with contemporary high-end finishes. The contemporary kitchen features Silestone countertops and brushed nickel fixtures. Recessed lighting and pop-up electrical outlets make for a functional space with clean lines. In the spa-like master, a his-and-hers vanity and three frame-lit mirrors sit below a triptych of skylights. At the other end of the room, the marble-clad walk-in shower includes a built-in marble bench, a steam unit, and a rain showerhead.

4) RL Remodeling

RL Remodeling had to get creative for a five-figure project in Woodland Hills. In order to give the clients a more expansive kitchen without adding square footage, the contractor added skylights to bring in natural light and raise the perceived ceiling height. They also removed walls to create a more open floor plan. At a bathroom remodel in Encino, RL Remodeling created a tasteful, high-end space for a homeowner with a very specific vision. Drawing on some of the aesthetic elements of the bathroom at famed restaurant Nobu, the design incorporates Zebrawood and bamboo in the beautiful and functional vanity with storage space. A unique vessel sink complements the double-sized stone shower and soaking tub.

For a master bath remodel, Kavin Construction created a refined, unique space by using varied materials in a limited palette. The all-white vanity has a simple, sleek countertop and dual sinks with brushed nickel faucets over white shaker cabinets. The bathroom floor and the walls of the oversized shower are tiled in the same Carrara marble cut to different sizes. The glass shower door completes the clean look. Kavin Construction also turned a simple patio into an outdoor oasis. Working with the architects of Himes Miller Design, the team renovated the traditional columns and arches for cleaner lines complemented by greenery. Cut stone and moss surrounds a simple stone water feature. Pared down filigree ironwork between the patio and an interior corridor connect and define the two spaces. Overall, the design evokes a secret Roman garden.

Treeium eschewed the typical stone finishes for a bright white lacquer kitchen in Westlake Village. Dark glossy bamboo and lower cabinets bring contrast to the wraparound countertops and cubic island. The island houses a four-burner gas range opposite double ovens. Every surface takes advantage of natural light coming in from the adjacent yard. One breakfast bar joins the kitchen space with the family room, while another sits along French doors that open to the yard. In a luxurious yet understated master bathroom remodel, Treeium fit a lot of comfort into a small space. The his-and-hers vanity share one oversized antiqued mirror. Its slim frame complements the other contemporary fixtures, like the sleek faucets, simple drawer pulls, and a highly customizable and sustainable shower system. No master bath would be complete without a soaking tub, and this one sits under a picture window overlooking Los Angeles.

In a kitchen remodel for Chef Nikki Nakayama of Los Angeles hotspot N/Naka, Greenworks Construction & Design proved that an eco-friendly remodel can still be professional quality. Matte black light fixtures and a patterned sloped ceiling add intrigue to an otherwise light and lean kitchen. A stainless steel double range sits between flat-faced bamboo cabinets. Open shelving behind a sliding frosted glass panel creates easy access to last minute recipe additions. Across from the countertop’s stone waterfall edge is plenty of shelving for cookbooks. The cutaway between the kitchen and dining room space recalls a restaurant’s open kitchen, giving guests a view of the master at work.
