The major re-do of Wrigley Field known as Project 1060 has entered a new big-dollar phase of building. After the original $20 million valuation for new bleachers, a new set of $11 million permits dropped in November to cover the foundation work below a series of new structures, including new LED signage. More recent permits for the Phase I buildout of those structures show new high dollar costs.
The Phase I buildout of the west grandstand area, down the left field line, was just permitted at a valuation of $15 million. Bleacher expansion for left and right field will run an additional $6 million, and the structure for the new LED video boards and signs is slated to cost $5 million to construct.
A small restoration of an existing portion of the RF brick outfield wall will run about $200,000. These restoration projects are in line with the Cubs’ goals of retaining some of the legacy of the old Wrigley while bringing the aging structure into the future.
