1 Degree Construction

I just completed two bathroom renovations and they were disasters. 1 Degree could not have been more unprofessional and a project that was meant to take 2-3 months lasted more than 6 because of their numerous mistakes. Here is a list of some of the things that 1D Construction screwed up that either cost us money or time. Feel free to contact me for photos/more info.
-They failed to determine the proper tub enclosure for our tub, so they claimed that in order to correctly waterproof our tub, they’d have to build an additional piece. Since this wasn’t foreseen, they charged us more and the contractor dared to claim that he “was doing us a favor” by still giving us a “discount.” And the head contractor did not bother to read our designs correctly, so he didn’t even know what kind of tub we were planning on using, so that’s what set us on the wrong track before construction even began.
-A bench was built in the primary bathroom shower that wasn’t originally planned. We (not 1D) came up with the bench as a solution for another problem that the contractors didn’t foresee, but then they still charged us $1500 to build it
-1D had no plan for how the drawers of the vanities would fit with our existing sink pipes, so after them not coming up with a solution, I finally just scrapped them. Then, 1D made no plan for including backs or bottoms for the cabinets’ insides, so now the insides look awful.
-Their glass guy built custom doors since the drawers were unusable, which looked awful too, so we scraped those, and after much back and forth, 1D figured out how to properly install the original drawers that came with the vanity
-1D didn’t confirm that the medicine cabinet that was ordered was the correct size. So when their workers arrived to mount the med cabinet, it didn’t fit. Plus the contractor wasn’t onsite that day, so even after the guys did determine that the cabinet wouldn’t fit, for some reason, they still drilled holes into the tile. 1D had to replace that tile.
- 1D installed the vanity in the primary bathroom crookedly and sloppily. The contractor repeatedly complained about the quality of the vanity to justify the crappy job his guys did installing it, when others with the same cabinets had that problem.
-1D also blames the lack of mounting support that the vanity came with for why it wasn’t mounted cleanly, but he could have figured this out sooner if he had bothered to look at the vanities, as they were onsite for weeks before construction began.
-1D didn’t confirm that the primary shower valve installed in the wall was compatible with the faucet system we bought, so when his plumber came to install it, it didn’t fit. Now, we changed the color of the shower (from black to gold) at the last minute which we acknowledge is an inconvenience, BUT even if we had stuck to the original black shower trim, it still would've been incompatible with the valve, and the plumber still would've had to have come back.
-1D tried to charge us $750 to bring that plumber back so I hired my own plumber to finish the job.
-1D also didn’t tell me we’d need an extension kit for the valve to work with the trim. So when my new plumber came, he couldn't install the shower. If 1D had told me to buy it just in case, we could've save my new plumber a trip. The new plumber I found had to come three times to install one shower because even when we did get an extension kit for the main faucet, we still didn’t have an extension piece for the handheld faucet. Neither of which 1D told us we’d need. Both of which would have caused his plumber to have to come out multiple times.
-When I did eventually get the correct extension kit, 1D told me that it was the wrong one. But they turned out to be wrong, it was the right one. Then, only AFTER I paid my new plumber in full, did 1D offer to help finish the job. That process set us back at least a month.
-1D wasn’t onsite when their glass guy measured the cabinet doors and he measured the doors incorrectly, which set us back about a week.
-The electricians had to come back 3-4 times after initially installing the lights because they did not install dimmers, even though I told the contractor at least 3 times and it’s in the contract, setting us back at least a week.
-1D poorly communicated with their guys and me in terms of when they’d work/not work. Workers would show up to the site when I wasn’t planning to be there all day or they’d show up much later than expected and not mention a delay. Or they’d show up too early. Both the workers and I were inconvenienced by the contractor’s lack of organization and communication.
-And finally, the biggest disaster of all, is that the shower in the guest bathroom was installed incorrectly and it had to be reinstalled, setting us back 5-6 weeks. Tile, glass, and the wall had to be broken and the shower was unusable for a week of further construction. That could have been avoided if 1D had chaperoned their workers better.

We as of late bought a 1950's home and required a Bathroom rebuild. This is our first enormous redesign project and had no clue about what's in store. Factors that were critical to us with remodeling were expenses and whether the work would be done in a timely manner.

Our first experience with David grabbed our eye with his straight forward approach of work process, financial plan, course of events, having assigned laborers and a committed project chief beginning to end.

David saw how much our hands were bound with a newborn on the way and we completely trusted his mastery with assumed control over the issue. At several points when there were unexpected issues because of the age of our home, he was quick to communicate a plan of action. He truly helped us and exceeded everyone's expectations and sprinted to get supplies upon request so we didn't have to worry about the easily overlooked details, he also assisted us with fixing other things around the house.

By and large, our new Bathroom was finished promptly and is all that we envisioned it would be and that's only the tip of the iceberg. David was scrupulous with our financial plan, was hands on in the vicinity occasionally and kept us completely refreshed on the advancement. He made the redesign cycle simple, productive and pleasant. We would suggest 1 Degree and pick David as an undertaking supervisor for our next huge venture.
