Do not hire, will take your money and do not deliver.
I hired Dave Howard from 1027 Builders to do my windows and doors at my house. I gave him $20,000.00 in April 20, 2021. He Said it would take 3 months. To this date 9 months later, no windows, no doors.
He stopped answering my phone calls and text. He just disappeared with my money!
I wish I could upload photos and check given to him -
By LaurenFebruary 4, 2019renovate a kids bedroom/playspace & build a foyer closet
1027 Builders did a fantastic job (1) transforming our cold & boring makeshift exercise room into a supercool kids playspace which is now everyone's favorite room in our home; and (2) building what we call a "stroller garage" in our foyer so seamlessly that you'd never know it wasn't there originally. Their whole team was respectful, hard-working, efficient and communicative. And best of all, it was a pleasure to have them around (even when I was 9 months pregnant and overtired with 2 toddlers running around!) I truly appreciated their professionalism and enthusiasm for this project and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others.

Absolutely not. I would not recommend this company to work in anyone's home. Unprofessional workers did not know how to even install my roof causing severe damage to my home, where my children and grand children sleep, causing mold. I had to fire them. Not caring my families situation. Took advantage my situation because I am widow. Took 75% of my money and only maybe did 1/5 not even, of the job. Refusing to negotiate returning any of my money. Never called me to speak to me regarding my money. And left me with unfinished roof, unfinished frame work so I am not exposed to mother nature, inferior material used, a lot of structural damage that need either repairs and finishing the job correctly so I do not have any more water with
every time it poors. I had to hire a independent ENGINEER which I sent him the engineers report and he never responded.Response from 1027 Builders January 9, 2019At 1027 Builders, we are never pleased that a project is not successfully completed. The homeowners assertions regarding our character, professionalism and ability are patently inaccurate. 1027 Builders asserts that we had ample funds, energy and ability to complete this project. The homeowners decision to pursue this matter in online venues is evidence of the unsupportable nature of the claims. -
By Sui L.October 22, 2018Kitchen, bathrooms, painting$75,000
We hired 1027 Builders for two bathrooms, a kitchen and painting throughout. Dave worked tirelessly to communicate throughout the job and managed to stay on budget by guiding us through our choices for finishes. He saved us thousands by thoughtful searching for quality materials that met our style requests. We would recommend 1027 Builders to anyone looking for a contractor that listens to your needs

Surprised by the 5-star reviews.
They were extremely knowledgeable, great at responding and communicating in the beginning and pricing was extremely competitive. They promised a great timeline, that they were eager to get this job but that's where it all ended.
Job started off with a bit of a rough patch due to the weather and they tried their best to protect my house but eventually Mother Nature won out and my hardwood floors were ruined by the rain. They assured they would repair/refinish the floors so ok, not a problem there.
Some days there would be no work done on my house regardless of the weather and was told it was because of waiting on materials. This happened on more than one occasion and I gave them the benefit of the doubt and was assured that the project would be completed on time. The initial estimate for the project was about 3 to 4 months. I envisioned moving into my newly renovated house shortly after due to the estimate but then delays started cropping up. As we were approaching the original estimated date, the house was nowhere near move in ready condition. My theory, which has now been proven as fact, is that they take on more jobs than they can handle without hiring enough workers and then shuffle them between jobs on which customer can pay more cash up front disregarding payment schedule.
Anyways, the deadline came and went and they needed money in advance, outside of our agreed payment schedule to continue working at a fast pace to try to complete the job. In light of the work that they did I agreed. At this point they were already a few weeks past the deadline and I was desperate to move back in so I felt like I didn't have a choice. They agreed to finish or to try finish within a month if I gave them the advance payment.
So as I was making my nightly runs over to the house to check on progress, I actually found a stranger slumped over in my basement. I didn't know who it was but eventually found out it was one of their workers. I took a picture in case anyone doesn't believe me. This was 6:30PM that this guy was slumped over in my basement drunk. He drank my whisky, my wine, and rummaged through other personal belongings looking to steal. I called 911 but canceled after the contractor picked up the guy.
Ok, it's my fault for leaving things in the house but I trusted these guys to do the right thing and apparently my trust was misplaced.
A month came and went and we were still nowhere near finishing. They attributed again to not having enough money and daringly, the next day after finding their worker passed out drunk in my basement, said they didn't have enough money to finish the job. They needed another $20K in order to finish. At this point they were already 90% paid for the entire project, with about $9K remaining. I told them we didn't have anymore money and they kept insisting that they needed money to finish the job.
So, obviously they under bid this job in order to get it and now they were in dire straits because they didn't have anymore funds to finish the job. This led to more delays, with them sending 1 guy a day to the house to do random work. Keep in mind this was 2 months past the originally projected deadline and they were in no rush to finish up because they weren't going to get anymore money. After many heated discussions, we eventually settled on a new amendment that they were to finish up within 10 days so that we could end this project. At this point we were 3 months past the original deadline. The 10 days they worked on the house, it was in a very rushed fashion and now paint's cracking on my walls, frame around my windows are cracking, I have gaps in all my baseboards because they weren't filled, the caulking around my wetbar is cracking, the tiling in my bathroom is uneven, my skylights were leaking and water went through the 2nd floor into the 1st floor.
There's a laundry list of items that were done poorly and their response has been so inadequate, I'm surprised they receive 5 stars from anyone.
One thing that comes to mind are these balcony doors they installed in my house that aren't meant for residential houses. The original plan called for brand name accordion doors but due to my budget, I had suggested sliding doors but they installed accordion doors that are single pane and offer no insulation or protection whatsoever from the elements. My master bedroom that these doors are installed in, hovers around 40 degrees because of these doors. 40 degrees inside and I have pictures of the frozen handle on the interior of the doors…………..which you would assume a general contractor would have the experience and knowledge that these doors aren't suitable for a residential home, especially in the Northeast. I mean, ¼" glass aluminum single-pane balcony doors………….you might as well be sleeping outdoors.
In addition, not only did this worker steal my alcohol but I'm missing brand new appliances that I purchased and they have not a
Response from 1027 Builders March 23, 2018Thank you for the review. As a small business we are always interested in constructive feedback. Your input has influenced our project management approach to evolving engagements and we now document all change requests in advance of their execution as well as the impact of those changes have on the budget AND timeline. Although there were multiple changes along the way, the ultimate vision for your home remodel was an exciting one to support, and we were disappointed that we did not have an opportunity to finish and count you as a satisfied 1027Builders client. The situation with the intoxication of the worker was extremely disappointing, and as you shared, was addressed immediately. This person does not reflect the values of our organization and is no longer associated with our company. While the facts you stated are not aligned with our experience, we welcome the opportunity to finish the job that was started. -

We are almost half done with my project and I couldn't be more pleased. My contractor is a true professional. He has been both responsive and proactive to my house renovation in all areas of the job. I especially like how my contractor keeps me informed as to the progress. Would definitely use him again.

We had a major remodel of our house, which included changing the floor plan. The 1027 Builders team were able to execute our vision beyond our expectations, and they were very responsive and professional through the whole process.
We have gotten multiple compliments about the quality of our home and we have 1027 Builders to thank!
