Flooring and Storm Door Installation Fell Short of Expectations
What began with trust ended in costly disappointment. I hired 5 Star Remodeling to install vinyl plank flooring and a storm door. The contractor, Ted, had offered guidance on materials and even met me at Home Depot, which helped earn my trust. Unfortunately, once the job began, that professionalism quickly faded.
The flooring installation was poorly executed. The subfloor was not properly secured (despite prior discussion), there were no expansion gaps, and the planks were laid in the wrong direction with a repetitive “H” pattern—something I never approved or was consulted on. There were also rough cuts at the corners and a strange double layer of planks at the stair edge. When I voiced concerns, I was met with dismissive responses, phone calls that talked around the issue, and irrelevant photos of peel-and-stick flooring.
The storm door installation also failed. I had pointed out a structural problem in the frame beforehand. Ted acknowledged it needed a larger screw, but never returned to fix it. The door began pulling away almost immediately.
Even after multiple opportunities to make things right—including a direct request for a written resolution—Ted never returned, never followed through, and ultimately left me with a floor that must now be fully redone. While he claimed to stand behind his work 100%, there was no walkthrough, no accountability, and no closure.
I do not recommend.
