    $200,000

    My wife and I hired Jason with A&D Rain or Shine to remodel our house last year. Although he was very charismatic and told us “he would treat our house like his home”, we soon found his words far out-paced his skill and professionalism. When Jason excavated for new foundations for new columns, he showed no understanding of how to read a set of plans and tried to place the new foundations outside our house footprint and not under the new columns, where they were structurally necessary. He continued to install a new beam and shear walls to support the upper floor without proper reinforcement and tried to use inadequate materials instead of those called out by the structural engineer in the plans. Problems like these continued throughout the project, with Jason choosing to not follow the plans provided and making it up as he went. We had to work through multiple code violations that Jason had installed that caused us to end up with an unsightly hole dug in the front of our house because “he was going to fix [his grading issue] as cheaply as possible”; we had to have drywall ripped out after painting because Jason did not know how to properly frame a staircase and it did not passcode. When we got to finishing the house where we could place out personal touches—how we wanted custom showers laid out, the exterior of our porch, our front door, and finish choices—Jason would push back on any decision he didn’t like (or didn’t come up with himself) and would hold off doing work to ask again and again. Jason also did not take any responsibility for the work or actions of subcontractors he hired, citing them as independent contractors or another company when complaints were made (including finding beer cans on the property from drinking on-site.) To finish off the project, we had materials ordered and delivered to our site that were never approved; when we had Jason remove the materials from the job site, he refused to provide us a refund because “he has to make money.”
    When Jason was contacted to complete warranty repairs during the 1 year of warranty from his letter of completion, he refused to answer my calls or return emails. It took putting trackers in my emails for him to respond and he continued to refuse to uphold his written word because “he didn’t like me.” I ended up having to file a complaint with the CCB to have any kind of measurable response from Jason. CCB Claim number 191463-102.
    Needless to say, we would not recommend Jason or A&D Rain or Shine to anyone for any reason and regret hiring him in the first place. He took what should have been an exciting project—remodeling our home to fit our needs and style—and turned it into a nightmare.
