Grimes Terry Clayton
RANT COMING ON!
I hired A. Plumber & Associates Inc. as I knew Terry from when he was a subcontractor for Lowe's back in the early days as we were.
He was hired to install a brand new GE line of dishwasher, faucet, drain, garbage disposal & gas stove & R/R 4 shut off valves).
He quoted a price via text after I explained exactly what needed to be down but when he arrived, the price changed. He found himself very lost and miserable. He was continually bitching about the smallest of things only for the homeowners to hear.
I found that when he was speaking to me, he spoke to me as if I was a child and several times requested to speak to my husband instead. (I have told Terry several times over the years that I make the decisions, but I guess it never registered) I would call him and my husband would listen to what Terry was asking or saying only for my husband to call me to speak to Terry and make any final decisions.
I may be a woman, but I have been in the business for 35+ years. Do not talk down to me because I am a woman and/or that you are afraid that because I am a woman, I wouldn't understand.
Now, while he & his helper were there for 5+ hours, yes 5+ hours, the drain still was not hooked up because he said the drain was too high even though he had previously viewed the project prior to that day.
He complained that we did not provide enough space for the dishwasher. Dishwasher was 23.75" wide and we provide 24.25". This would give enough room for the side splashes to be installed, but they were not. He also nicked the left side of the false front on the sink base, so now, I have to order a replacement part and swap them out at my cost. SAD!
The dishwasher was not installed correctly. The water hose was not securely tightened under the dishwasher itself, thus water leaked all over her brand new floor and cabinets when we did the test run. The next day, my husband undid what we paid them to do and installed said dishwasher as per specs and within the same spacing that Terry whined was not enough.
Now I paid for all of the above except for the installation of the gas stove. If he was a Professional, while he was at the house, and prior to him making a trip to Lowe's for parts for the installation of the dishwasher (which he didn't need; I paid for & he kept), he should have looked at any additional parts/materials that he may have needed for said gas stove and drain and made one trip, but he didn't. So the gas stove & drain where not installed.
As for the drain, when we said that we needed it done, he got very upset and said that he couldn't do it because he was tired and it was late. (It was now 6ish). Oh and that he was fully booked tomorrow. So where do we go from here? I have a so-called Professional Plumber saying that he can’t finish the project that he was hired for, he can’t return the next day to complete and he wants all of the money?
When my husband and I offered to cut through the back wall and that we would deal with the drain problem ourselves, that's when he really got pissed. He actually grabbed a pencil and started writing (hard/stabbing) on a cardboard box on how the drain was done and that he didn't think we could do it.
When he was pointing towards an upright pipe that he drew, he couldn’t even recall the name, so I called out, “the stack!” (pipe through roof), he replied, "Oh, you know what a stack is"? That's when I snapped.
YES TERRY, WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE DOING. AS WE HAVE EXPLAINED SEVERAL TIMES, WE WERE JUST BUSY AND THAT IS WHY WE CALLED YOU IN.
Picture attached. You can see that he drilled 1 hole at the bottom of the cabinet shoving both water lines through whereas one hole was to be drilled on the top and one on the bottom. Oh and the drain, well that's new. I replaced it myself.
The mess of shut off valves in the picture were not installed correctly either. He came off copper into a sharkbite and then down to tubing. WTF?
First of all, sharkbites are for homeowners, NOT for Professional plumbers. AND WHY WOULD A PROFESSIONAL USE 3 TYPES OF PIPING?
Well, Monday Monday, I will have to remove the 4 shut off valves and have them replaced as there are leaks at the tubing claps.
NOT only did Terry NOT know what he was doing, he was asking my husband how to do things.
HERE IS THE TOPPER:
The homeowner, who has just spent $$$$$ on a brand new kitchen & appliances wanted to remove the film off the fridge doors and install the handles. When she was pulling off the film, Terry stared her down and snapped. Could you do that later? I have to concentrate!
WOW, Just WOW!
I followed him to his truck and when he wanted to charge me for everything, I at that time, said no. I requested that he charge me for today only and I also told him that I would no longer be needing his services.
As a Contractor of 35+ years myself, and with all of the subs that I have hired, A. Plumber & Associates Inc. Ocoee will no longer be on my list of recommendations.
