Abode Custom Builders walked off a contracted job for residential renovations more than a year ago, leaving extensive damage to my home. Abode Custom Builders was overpaid several thousands of dollars for the subpar work they did and refused to finish their work or fix any of the damage they caused to my home. A year later, when they found out I was selling my home, they knowingly took out an illegal lien against my property causing my buyer to rescind their purchase offer. Abode Custom Builders then attempted to extort me for several more thousand dollars to remove their illegal lien. Their lien was illegal because NC Statute 44A Statutory Liens and Charges states that a contractor has to have performed "work" within 180 days of filing the lien. "Work" does not constitute a site "visit". Work actually has to be an improvement to the property. Abode Custom Builders had not performed any work or even been on my property for at least 10 months prior to taking out the lien, long after 180 days had passed. When Abode Custom Builders was told by legal authorities that their lien was illegal, they then knowingly took out a second illegal lien and claimed their last day of work was AFTER they took out the first lien. Who does "work" for someone AFTER there is an official dispute? The owner of Abode Custom Builders has now been arrested for a 2nd degree misdemeanor trespass for harassment and illegal entry onto my property. Abode Custom Builders KNOWINGLY took out TWO illegal liens against my property and caused the sale of my home to be cancelled. The work they did on my home did not pass inspection by the Buncombe County Building Inspections Division and two other construction experts have testified that the work Abode Custom Builders did is subpar and caused additional substantial damage to my home. Abode Custom Builders tried to EXTORT me for several thousand dollars to remove their illegal liens and have shown a pathological disregard for the law and ethical business practices.
