Shane Howard Walcott
Owner
TLDR: Typical contractor who has no problem wetting their beak on contracts but when it comes time to fix issues they are no where to be seen and the cost falls to the home owner.
When getting a stucco bid AQC had an optional service that included some kind of mesh to reduce cracking. This service was an additional $35,000, roughly 25% of the total contract. I opted not to do it however when the time came Roman said he would do the service if I just paid him about $4500, check made out to him personally, not AQC. Probably a huge red flag but I let it go.
AQC got involved in a few other services I needed and every time they failed. When I needed a better roofer, Shane and Roman brought in another roofer to refinish the roof in hopes to fix the issues, who failed to fix any of the issues (e.g. roof leaks, bad spray job etc).
Roman and I had a misunderstanding about some roofing z bar. When I was wrong and I admitted multiple times I was, he seemed to not let it go. He got extremely mad when I asked why couldn't we predict the look of off colored exposed z bar (that he did not install, that was the only misunderstanding). He snapped at me and said that I am not a builder and stormed off the job saying unless I pay him in full hes not coming back. After emailing him I would not be doing that, he showed up the next day to meet again. When I said as men engaged in business we should talk about disagreements and not let emotions dictate behavior. He said he had to leave our meeting the day before cause he knows himself and did not want to do something he would regret..... basically saying he would have gotten physical (the machismo is strong with this one lmao). By far the most immature sub I had for the entire project.
Shane also wet his beak on my drywall for about a week. He was supposed to provide supervision for a sub that he had hired (I found out later he hired another contractor who then hired a drywall sub- so three contractors were all being compensated). When I brought it to Romans attention he said it was because he called some number from a sign and the contractor answered but not the drywallers so that's why there's another contractor in the mix. Ok strange? I fired everyone part of the drywall contract when I found out they were using cousins brothers nephews sisters to gain as much laborers as possible ($55/ hour/ worker was Shane's cost, he then charged me $85/ hour/ worker). Shane would show up about an hour every day. When I brought the ridiculousness of this situation to Shanes attention he was clearly anxious I was doing so he let me out of that contract without having to pay for the "week" of his supervision.
