Alexander B. Veith
President
I hired Alex after he came out to give me an estimate on a new deck on a pre existing frame. As other reviews on other websites show, Buyer Beware. I just wish I had read them. He is impossible to get in touch with, well that is after he cashes your initial check before that his communication is great. He went against the agreement he set in place and unfortunately now I'm having to take him to court. I would just say to others do your research on his company. He also has reviews under Veith restorations. So the story goes, he said that I could use my pre-existing frame and I got it authorized by my homeowners board, after cashing my initial check and me trying to get a hold of him for a start date, he comes out and does a messy and poor job of removing my deck, leaving nails in the old joists etc. I call him to find out what he thinks of the condition of my deck and he states that it is fine. Next thing I know I have an email for $1800 quoted as a price for new joists. After inquiring further as to what that includes I get another invoice for $7300 additional dollars for a brand new (all new frame etc) deck. I guess he smelled more money by my phone call bc all of the sudden my frame was no good (even though other contractors and an engineer stated otherwise). I continued to ask him what wasn't good, he's response it's not up to code." No kidding we are using a pre existing frame and just bc something is not up to code doesn't make it unsafe. Code changes constantly and he was the one that told me my pre existing frame was fine. Then days of no response and won't tell me where he ordered my material. I even tried to come to an agreement with him where I would pay for the material. I called every distributor within a 20 mile radius and no one had heard of him. Now the material was suppose to be schedule and delivered today and by no surprise I still haven't heard of him. I'll let you know the update once the case has been settled in court. It's unfortunate bc I have never had a bad experience with a contractor but this one has jaded me forever. Just please do your research. When 1 website shows 3 out of 9 reviews are negative, I wish I had seen it first bc they were dead on.
