A terrifying experience within the family..everyone is doing ok. Carbon Monoxide leaked into their home..low levels for almost a year undetected..then getting stronger and stronger for three months with family in various stages of illness from exposure..culminating in the discovery and evac of the house in the knick of time. Furnace 3 years old, oversized, possible cracked heat exchanger. CO detectors throughout did not alert.
The contractor unwilling to make good on it.
The manufacturer: Only concern is selling furnaces to any contractor regardless of how they install or what they install.
Concern for poisoning a family: Zero
Offenders: Admiral Heating and Cooling in Castle Shannon and Lennox Furnace Manufacturer.
Model #: EL296UH90XE48C 88,000BTU (actually 90,000BTU)
Admiral Heating never performed a simple load calculation before installing the furnace. Installed an 88,000 BTU in an older home with small vents (was explained to them at initial ordering time) in a home that should have, according to another heating and cooling contractor's load calculation recently, been 55,000 to 60,000 BTU's.
3 years old..furnace brand new in furnace years...
Poisoned an entire family... who barely caught it before a tragedy occured.
Players:
Steve Ubinger/Admiral Heating and Cooling, Castle Shannon PA
Chris Vicari/Lennox
Admiral Heating Solution: Replace heat exchanger in same oversized furnace with a 1 year labor warranty (just in case it happened again I guess). When that was not satisfactory, replace with same Model 88,000 BTU oversized furnace. No install of a smaller furnace. Not satisfactory. No refund on furnace. No remorse.
Lennox solution: Mediate an agreement with Admiral who was unwilling to give a refund or do a load calculator or replace with a 60,000 BTU furnace. Other than that, not interested in examining the furnace for possible recall or factfinding why it leaked. No refund to customer. No remorse. Will continue selling to Admiral.
Consumer: Purchased New Carrier Brand, Screwed, poisoned and treated rudely by Admiral during a crisis. No refund. Should be 0 stars.
