    Roofing

I am Michigan resident and had roof replacing on 3/3/2000 costing a big, big number of money. Job looks good to me, but the sunder storm on 8/2 caused the front bay window roof serious leaking and the bay window internal celling damage. Reported to Frank Gill, Michigan business engagement representative, and no response after 10 days. I hope they can keep their good reputation, customer confidence even after the project was finished. (post on 8/14/2022).

I could not have had a better experience than having Advocate replace my roof and siding. They guided me through the entire project. Excellent quality of work and clean up was outstanding. I would recommend Advocate to anyone.

    Replace Roof

Where to begin. First a little about myself to let you know I am a true customer and not a company employee trying to boost a rating on a website to fool other customers. I am a retired Army veteran and now work for the US government as a project manager dealing with construction and contracting of federal offices. I want other people to be aware of the service that I received from using this company in the repair of my roof from a recent storm. I was referred to this company by a friend of the family that was currently having work done to repair the damage that they had also suffered from a recent storm. Below are the many issues that I experienced after using Advocate Construction and looking into the other project that they had completed on the individual's home that had referred me to this company.

    1) The Advocate Construction project manager came to my house and completed his walk around of my property and said we did have damage and he wanted to start a claim with my insurance immediately and called them on the spot to schedule an inspection with their rep and my insurance adjuster. He did not provide me an estimate. Problem number 1. Always request a written estimate from the company to verify they are not price gouging and cheating your insurance. I did however just recently purchase the home and had an inspection completed along with 2 other estimates from companies so was aware of the total cost to have my roof replaced along with the verified current condition.

    2) Advocate Construction did not complete the work on my roof. They will take the job and then sub-contract it out to the lowest bidder. This is just a fact on how companies make money which is not a problem when done correctly. However, the Advocate project manager was not here to verify the work that the sub-contractor was completing and should have been going on the roof to ensure that everything was being installed properly. Instead he pulled up one time in his pickup and simply glanced at their progress and then drove on his way. In doing so after the roof was installed it was found that the decking was not replaced properly at all and areas were damaged from dropping 60 pound bundles of shingles onto. At one point these were being dropped with such force that it was causing crystals to fall from the chandeliers installed in my dining room and my formal room. Advocate sent one of their inspectors after the roof was installed and verified that it had not been properly installed in areas and would need repaired.

    3) After the new roof was installed, the Advocate project manager submitted a completed scope of work to my insurance with all of the additional work that they had claimed was completed in the repair of my roof. A lot of people may not verify that the scope mirrored the billing but being a project manager I went over it line by line. As it turned out the company had billed my insurance to receive a second check for work that was never completed. One line stated that the they had installed a saddle on my fireplace to bring the roof up to code. When I addressed this with the Advocate project manager he stated that he did not see that on the billing but just a few days prior, he had provided me a line by line bill from their company which did include the line number for the saddle. He then stated to me that he was not aware of any such code and this was new to him. Upon doing my research into the International Building Code, which Illinois and almost every other state has incorporated, it states in Chapter 15, sub paragraph 1503.5 that a cricket or saddle will be installed on the ridge side of any chimney or penetration greater than 30 inches wide. This code has been around for years and I would think a project manager would have to be up to code or an inspector that is approving the work. This was billed to my insurance and never installed to code.

    3) Advocate Construction removed my turtle type metal roof vents and replaced the decking and installed ridge vents in their place. This I approved since ridge vents are shown to allow better air flow when installed properly. The problem is that Advocate Construction billed my insurance for the purchase and installation of 7 new metal turtle type roof vents. It was also discovered and pointed out to the Advocate project manager that my soffit venting was damaged and was not even enough installed to adequately allow proper air flow for the cooling of my attic. I asked if this could cause damage to the newly installed roof and he stated that it would and that I would be responsible for replacing all of the soffit venting. This work should have been completed by the company when the project manager stated that without proper ventilation and airflow, this could void the warranty of the new installation.

    4) Advocate Construction billed my insurance an additional $1,000 for the claimed removal of an additional layer of composite shingles which I can ve

John Sparklin was terrific. He helped us through the inspection, the permit, he was patient during the roofing selection. Scheduling the job was simple as they were very flexible. I had to make a change to the schedule and they were very accommodating. The installers started early and wrapped up in 1 day.
I would recommend you call Advocate and ask for John. Very experienced and ready and willing to work.

    Replace roof

When I was contacted by Jordan to discuss Advocate and the services that they were providing to homeowners in my neighborhood, I was instantly impressed with his level of professionalism and down to earth demeanor. I could tell immediately that he, and Advocate Construction as a whole, were trustworthy and would not steer me wrong in any way.

I also got to meet Joe, who was so friendly and helpful. I was so incredibly impressed by both of these gentlemen.

I simply cannot express how much their ability to communicate the details of the work needed, how the process would take place, and how best to deal with my insurance agent was something that I really, really, needed.

It would only be appropriate to share that I just suffered the sudden and unexpected loss of my husband a mere four months ago... this catastrophic event instantly turned me into the sole owner of this home (and with little to no knowledge of how to maintain a home on my own (my husband absolutely loved this house and truly enjoyed caring for it all of these years) I've been very concerned about how best to handle two leaks that were caused by a recent weather event). So the fact that these gentlemen took such good care of me left me feeling safe - and even somewhat overwhelmed by there kindness and care.

Thank you to Advocate for building such an educated, respectful, kind and considerate team. I will recommend you to absolutely everyone I know.

We are very happy with the services offered by Daisey Montiel and her team. They guided us about the whole process of getting our roof approved from the insurance company and getting a great job done. It is very difficult to get the damage approved by insurance company inspectors. They were very patient, supportive and understanding about our needs. Daisey is very easy to communicate and follows through in a timely manner. I would highly recommend her, her team and Advocate Construction to everyone.

Laurie Burnette could not have been a better contractor to work with. She was quick to answer any questions I had regarding the work being done. Her responses to my calls were within the same day or the next day. She was patient with me when I needed more help in understanding the whole project. Laurie receives the highest marks from me. I am very happy with my new roof and new siding. Thank You Advocate Construction. Ramona Robert

BEST STAFF EVER, QUALITY OF WORK EXCELLENT

JD McDuffie is Advocate Constructions Assistant Sales Manager. Out of this world for caring for the work that was being done to our home, right up to the day of final payment. Very professional but by far the kindest man I have ever met. He not only took care of the details of our home but was sincere with his wishes of my health during my time of despair. Thank you JD Mc Duffie for being the man you are. Great to have worked with you through Advocate Construction. Katrinka Rosenquist

We recently had our roof replaced due to hail damage. I would like to preface this by saying our insurance company recommended a contractor to check our roof. He told us that nothing was wrong with it. In April of this year, we met Jordan and Jeff from Advocate. They detected much damage to our roof .We filed a claim with our insurance company (yes, the same insurance company that sent the aforementioned contractor), and they sent a claims adjuster out and our roof was damaged. Advocate did the job and there was little stress to us. We would use them again if need be.
