    Replace failed HVAC
    $7,500

    We have used Don Busse's services more than once with satisfactory outcomes. Eleven years ago he installed a Ruud 5-ton HVAC in our condo. It worked well but eventually failed, simply worn out. Last month we had him replace it with a similar unit by Comfort Air and it has performed well so far.

    While I can't comment on service Don provided to other customers who have provided reviews here, I can say that Don has been responsive to our needs and has worked to address any problems, usually under the terms of applicable warranties, to minimize our costs. He has also provided a good HVAC system to our daughter's town house in Lakewood Ranch, and we have recommended his services to other friends without hesitation.

    Replace AC Unit

    We initially thought Don installed our system properly, little did we know…

    Six months after installation the system broke down. We contacted Don several times but never got a response from him. Eventually, we contacted another AC company. They found major flaws:
    - Don installed the wrong heat strip, which caused the transformer to burn.
    - the unit was not installed up-to-code.

    Don's response:
    - He claimed the unit was not up to code because the county code had changed. We verified that with the county and the code had not changed...
    - Don promised to get the unit inspected after installation, but he did not. He only applied (retroactively) for a permit when we complained. This confirms he was dishonest because you cannot get an inspection without a permit... Avoiding inspections seems to be how Don works, we saw it in other reviews.
    - Don failed the actual inspection by the county twice, due to severe issues...
    - Don refuses to pay for the damage caused by his incorrect installation.

    Unfortunately, our unit is still not working correctly:
    - when Don replaced the heat strip he miswired it.
    - Don used the wrong fuse, effectively removing the protection. When we switched on the heating last winter, it blew the transformer again.
    - Don again refuses to compensate the damage he caused.

    These are objective facts about our experience with Don:
    - After two years our system is still not installed properly and breaks down when using heating
    - Don did not apply for a permit to install the unit and thus was not planning on having it inspected
    - Don had to retroactively apply for a permit to setup the inspection.
    - Don's unit failed the inspection twice...
    - Don's mistakes have damaged our unit twice and he refuses fix it / pay for it.
    - Several explanations Don has given were dishonest, for example, the county code changes.

    I'll leave it up to you to decide whether that's the kind of person you want to hire to install your AC system.

    Florida Air installed a new 4.0 ton Ruud - Rheem air conditioning system Model
    JP1748, RH2T48 in my residence four years ago (4/10/16). It had a warranty of 10 years each for Parts/Labor/Comp. It worked well for a year or so. Then it needed some adjustments with the heating/cooling system. He did come to adjust parts, but when the cooling/heating system continued to misfunction he refused to return. Two local companies took a look at servicing my A/C system but refused to contract regularly b/c it was "too advanced" a system. The owner of the company Don Busse claimed that he wouldn't return b/c I "stiffed" him. (I paid him in full by VISA card $6995 the day work was completed.)
    I still am not sure how or when I can have the system fixed. The heating and cooling system is very erratic and unpredictable.
