We hired Alleva construction on August 6, 2014 for a bathroom remodeling. It is now December 10, 2014. We passed the electrical inspection the 2nd time the Inspector came. As of today we have not passed the inspection for the insulation. The insulation was not installed correctly. I do not think the project will be finished in the 2014 year. Have sent many emails to Mike Alleva and gotten no response or reply. When we have called we are told that he is not available. You tell me how would you rate this company

Permits

Alleva Construction is a company that puts profits over clients’ needs, comfort, and satisfaction. Their lack of empathy is nothing short of chilling. My problems had to do with the following:
1. Multiple delays for which they always had an excuse. The small bathroom renovation project was initially expected to take 3-5 weeks to complete; it dragged on for 14 weeks. I was without a shower for 86 days and without a toilet for about two weeks.
2. The final cost, which rose up to more than 70% the initial quote.
3. The "administrative fee" for the town permits, almost twice the cost of the permits, a fee that's excluded from the contract.
4. The "activation fee" for the finance agreement, about which no one warns you.
5. The total absence of supervision and follow-up. Not even once did they come in to check on the project, except for day one of demolition, when I was hit with a 43% hike, or ask about customer satisfaction.
6. Their unprofessional, dismissive, and disrespectful attitude. I had to put up with huge garbage bags and empty cartons around the apartment over the weekends because the workers would leave them behind.
This contractor operates with no transparency and complete impunity. My recommendations: Scrutinize the contract and be sure to demand, in writing, what additional work, if any, may be involved and how much it might cost. Carefully study the terms of payment and do not agree to paying a large percentage of the balance before they have completed the job. Also, let them spell out what has not been included. You will pay dearly for all the “extras,” such as door and shower saddles (not essential items, it seems, as they were left out of the contract). Since their approximate timing is so elastic as to be meaningless, insist on a timeline before signing the contract, and hold them accountable for it. If you decide to go with Alleva despite all of the above, at least do not let my nightmare go completely to waste. Halfway through the project, I began to wonder if some of the positive reviews you read online have not been written by the Alleva reps themselves.
