Almack Construction & their crew were very considerate of our home, in that they took care to cover the floors, clean up each day, hang plastic dust barriers, remove debris daily, etc., and try to keep things as organized as possible in general, considering there was major construction taking place.

When we were unhappy with something, i.e. the initial job included two coats of paint, we asked that additional coats be applied, they were very accommodating. There were also some issues with the installation of the tile in the shower and on the floor. The shower tile, when first installed on one of the shower walls was not straight - it bowed out. My husband noticed it only when he stood in the shower when the installer for the shower glass was measuring. The wall that bowed was installed by Almack as part of the project. When my husband pointed this problem out, this was corrected but could have been avoided if before the tile was installed, the wall was leveled as it should have been, and readied for the tile installation.

The issue with the floor tile has more to do with the nature of the actual tile itself. We chose long 6 ft tile that resemble planks of wood. Neither the store we purchased the product from or Almack cautioned us that the product would lend itself to uneven edges, which resulted in lippage of more than the recommended 1/16". Almac removed many of the tile, re-grouted no questions asked at no additional cost to us, and explained that they had encountered this very problem on another big job, but did not share this information with us beforehand.

Most of the lippage problems were corrected, but there are still a few areas that remain high (1/8") and we are concerned that the tile will chip easily.

The one consideration that was not made before actually starting the project is that we were not given the opportunity to select the products being used, until the job actually started. We would not have started the project when we did, because it caused us some unnecessary stress and some lost time. Demolition was done, but we had to wait for the plumbing to be able to be installed because we had not yet selected the faucets etc., and when we did, they had to be ordered.

Again, my husband & I both want to reiterate that overall we are very happy with how the bathroom looks and Almack Constructions work. As I said - anything we asked for, they accommodated.

But to help them with future clients and also to help clients that may want to hire them in the future - share as much information as possible; ask as many questions as you can think of; make sure that you are prepared - both Almack with the supplies/fixtures needed for the project, and the homeowner - make all of your selections before your home becomes a work zone. A perfect example - we selected white paint for our bathroom color - you would think - very simple, right? Well the trim that matched the white that we selected was special order - if you can believe that!! There are at least 20 white paints to choose from on the color chart - if someone had said something or we had asked - is this in stock???? - we would not have had to wait but because the walls were already painted in the chosen color, we did!
