To be fair, we never chose Alterra to build our home. We were seriously considering this company, but they met with us and then never returned a single phone call or email. In hindsight, this was for the best since we did not want to work with a builder who is this unresponsive in the initial phases. I can only imagine the difficulties we would have faced it we chose them for our builder. We should have never wasted our time.

We hired Alterra Design Homes to construct a new single family residence in Fitchburg, WI in 2017. The contract and building plans called for handicap accessibility between the garage and kitchen door for our elderly mom. Handicap accessibility was our only non-negotiable item on the home build. Alterra’s owner Ryan Werth and his excavator Brad Fuller did not follow the building plans for the level of the garage floor, which led to the requirement for 3 steps leading from the garage to the kitchen and caused loss of handicap accessibility. Mr. Werth repeatedly agreed to fix the problem by putting in a handicap deck/ramp between the patio door and garage service door, but as we neared occupancy he refused. We had been told not to worry about the cost - that Alterra would take care of it. They did not. They refused to provide itemized billing for the final draw, filed a fraudulent lien that we had removed, and eventually turned the problem over to their insurer Frankenmuth Insurance Claims who refused to cover the cost of a handicap deck/ramp. If starting over, we wouldn’t hire this company to build a doghouse.
