My furnace was not working as a result of hurricane Sandy and Mr. Clarke came out on the Saturday after the hurricane to repair it. He did inspections, installed a temporary apparatus that I was not able to use and told me he would have to wait until Monday to get the parts before I would have heat. He recommended that we not use the furnace until he got the part so we suffered the entire weekend without heat in a freezing home. He asked for $200 for the visit but I gave him an extra $50 for coming because of the distance he traveled, the advice he gave, and how nice he was. He told me I would need a new motor for my fan and the total cost for everything (including the Saurday visit) would run between $550 and $600. I agreed to the total cost. Because of the nature of my work I had to report in on Monday so I left my son with a signed blank check with my young son to oversee and pay for Mr. Clarkes work.. Mr. Clarke told my son that the additional cost would be $495 for installing a motor that he had originally quoted me $300 for. My son not having this information did not realize that Mr Clarke had just boosted the rice up by $200. Meaning the total cost was $750. When I called him his explanation was that he had to drive to Baltimore (an hour an 1/2 away to get the part and that was the explanation for the $200 boost in cost).
Mr. Clarke please reconcile this now and lets not get into a FORMAL LEGAL battle where full investigations will have to insue. I would like to resolve this in a manner where no one is impacted by the outcome. Lets talk at your earliest convienance. You have my number. I will be in meetings all day in my Federal office on Wednesday, but if you can reach me on Tuesday or Thursday that would be great. I look forward to speaking with you. You have my number.
