Anselm Painting Company
About me. I started painting professionally 24 years ago. I was in college and home for the summer in San Diego. It was hard work but painting paid my tuition through Cal Poly. From there I never stopped painting.
My business philosophy is to serve my customers with honesty, integrity and hard work. I listen well and communicate clearly which means that we complete every painting job to your complete satisfaction.

Steve Anselm said the job would take two weeks or less - and it *should* have taken two weeks or less - but 32 days after he started, he still wasn't done, and his attitude had changed from initially cordial to angry, hostile and irrational. He had been saying "I'm done, pay me now, in cash" for about a week and I kept pointing out flaws and asking him to fix them - repeatedly pointing out the same obvious problems like stains seeping through the paint, big bald spots in the wall and ceiling texture, etc. There are still stains seeping through the paint - his most recent attempt to fix that issue was angrily spraying primer on a spot, then brushing the wall paint on before the primer was even dry (what a surprise, that did not cover the stain, lol.) Then he pretended to not be able to see that the brushed-on paint had a different sheen than paint that had been rolled on. He painted some of the wall outlet/switchplate/cable/phone outlet covers, taped over others, and only removed them and painted under them when I complained and refused to pay him for such a bad and unprofessional job. His attitude got increasingly hostile and he started insistently demanding to be paid, and paid in cash.
He had taken my baseboards off early in the project and took them away "to work on them at his shop" and many days when he didn't show up to my job site at all, he said he was working on the baseboards at his shop. I mentioned once “I bet the baseboards must be looking great by now then?” and he agreed, yes they look great, and are almost done. When I finally had to fire him - because he had become irrational and threatening and wasn’t doing any work to fix the flaws in his work, and I ended up paying him in full just to be rid of him, paying him in FULL for a poorly done, half done job - he repeatedly refused to return my baseboards until I paid him IN CASH (which I wouldn't do). Eventually he agreed to accept a check, and he returned my baseboards - dirtier than when they had been removed from my house. He had done exactly NOTHING to refinish the baseboards.
He actually did a seemingly good job on the kitchen cabinets so I guess he earned that One Star. But based on his work on the walls, ceilings, and baseboards, and his hostile and irrational attitude, he deserves a negative rating! Save yourself the hassle and expense I went through and DO NOT HIRE THIS HORRIBLY UNPROFESSIONAL PERSON!
