Simply the best...just ask the Kuiken Bros. employees who the #1 guy is. Mac rebuilt my porch of an 1880's Victorian and will soon do my whole house. Highest recommendation. 5 Stars.

Pro: His carpentry work is good.
Cons: We used Mac of Ask The Mayven Inc. as our GC based upon a referral from a friend. Mac said he'd 'take care' of us and besides the fact that he seemed like a good communicator, we also liked the price which was a fraction of what we were quoted elsewhere. The saying is true: 'You get what you pay for'. Working with Mac on our remodel and addition was a nightmare right from the start with delays in even getting started to his lack of ability to get along with our designer, architect and unfortunately even us - the customer. Mac didn't want to do what he didn't want to do. He didn't like our color grout selected so made decisions on design without asking us and never corrected the work. That is just one example. To be fair, I will say that 2013-14 was one of the worst winters we had in years (so I'll spare my complaints about a 3 month job taking 9 months) but even when we offered to pick up his guys/his subs with our AWD cars to get them to do work inside the house, we couldn't get them to come. Our biggest complaint: when they did actually work, they never sealed off the new construction part of our home leaving our baby and pregnant wife to breathe in all the dust and debris. The clean up at the end of the day was done by us - requiring hours of vacuuming, dusting and renting air filters. We all suffered sinus/respiratory infections from the health hazard. We pride ourselves in paying and paying on time. Upon legal guidance, we unfortunately had to withhold partial payment for Mac and two of his subs because their work was sub-par and in the case of Ask The Mayven - his ability to manage a small project like this was seriously inadequate. A GC needs to make the project run like a well oiled machine. This was far from our experience. Every day we had to email or call Mac to see if any work would be done and micromanage every step - it didn't start out that way and we didn't have the time or energy to do it but it was what was required. If you find yourself in the position of considering Mayven Construction, please consider this review. If you choose to go with him, please get a signed contract to (sort of) protect yourself. Unfortunately, we had no contract which worked against us and Mac in the end.
