I will not be working with Mr. Josh Sanderson again nor recommend his services. Since he completed a project on a shared fence with a neighbor, he has:
- Threatened a lawsuit for writing online reviews about his business that weren’t to his satisfaction
- Engaged in name-calling of his customer, saying I was “an unruly child”
- Used intimidation tactics by saying that I am not allowed to pay my final invoice (which I’ve requested 3 times now)Direct quotes I’ve received to my email account and my wife’s phone:
“In the meantime, you may not take any further action including paying your bill or posting reviews online that will only reflect further on your poor judgment in handling this as our neighbor. ““If these fake reviews are not taken down today there will need to be legal action taken. This is harassment.”
“This has been like dealing with an unruly child. This review needs to be taken down. It's not even factual.”
In July 2021, Mr. Sanderson completed repairing the lattice work of a fence shared with our next door neighbor. I expressed concern over the final labor invoice and offered to meet in-person from the very beginning. That’s when the trouble began, with Mr. Sanderson changing his story multiple times, and accusing me of misinterpreting his words and avoiding my question of why an estimate or bid was not created for a nearly $7K fence job for the top half of our shared fence. In the middle of the back and forth communication, our neighbor paid her half of the invoice.
Realizing this was not getting anywhere and mysteriously not hearing from Josh for 4 days after he asked to meet in-person, I asked for our updated invoice reflecting 1/2 of the final costs and telling him that I would be writing reviews of my poor experience with his business. That’s when the intimidation tactics and threats began:
“In the meantime, you may not take any further action including paying your bill or posting reviews online that will only reflect further on your poor judgment in handling this as our neighbor.“Now, Mr. Sanderson is claiming I was never a client, despite my name being on every invoice as well as paying the 1st materials invoice of over $1,000 in full and then getting reimbursed half of that amount by our neighbor via Venmo. He’s also claiming he is “our neighbor”; that is news to me, as I do not believe he is a permanent resident next door but has completed 4 projects with her. He’s unfortunately also gotten our next door neighbor involved, who I had no dispute with, to send us threatening communications about legal action:
“If these fake reviews are not taken down today there will need to be legal action taken. This is harassment.”
This erratic behavior is concerning, troubling and I would never wish it on any customer of a contractor. After posting the review, my wife began to receive emails from Mr. Sanderson:
“This has been like dealing with an unruly child. This review needs to be taken down. It's not even factual.”Mr. Sanderson has also claimed that my online review is some kind of negotiation tactic for our billing dispute, despite the fact that I have asked 3 times for my 1/2 of the total invoice that he requested without any sort of discount. He continues to withhold this invoice - due to so many mentions of legal action, I imagine it’s yet another intimidation tactic to silence my experience with Mr. Sanderson.
I understand that for a business owner that negative reviews are challenging to hear, but to threaten lawsuits and withhold the ability to pay what we owe in full is an extremely unprofessional response from a business owner. I certainly don’t want to enter into any kind of work with a contractor who thinks a lawsuit is any way to respond to a negative review.
Response from Azimuth Works Inc August 3, 2021This reviewer is not actually a client of Azimuth Works. This fraudulent review is a deliberate effort to damage our firm's reputation that is not based on fact. Our team provides impeccable service as can be seen from our many positive reviews online. We don't engage in misrepresentation, threats or harassment. We are service-oriented professionals. As stated earlier, this reviewer is not actually a client of Azimuth Works. His review has mischaracterized every aspect of how this project was conducted. The Whangs are a neighbor of our client, Ms. Baumgartner, who we have now worked with on four successful projects. Ms. Baumgartner engaged us to restore the fence that she shares with her neighbor. They agreed to split the cost. We were not a party to that arrangement. As Ms. Baumgartner requested, we communicated weekly status and expenses throughout the project on email. We also included her neighbors on choices related to materials, colors and expenses. Our client and her neighbor signed off on email on every project decision that was made. We performed nearly 60 hours of restoration work. When the work was completed, our client was happy and immediately paid us for her half. She asked us to bill her neighbor, the Whangs, directly for their half. The Whangs then began acting as though there was something wrong when we had gotten signoff on email on every project decision. Their strange behavior has now created an acrimonious conflict between neighbors. Ms. Baumgartner has now paid our company in full. We hope that the Whangs will acknowledge the inappropriate nature of their behavior, salvage their relationship with Ms. Baumgartner and take down this fraudulent review. Our team has consistently acted with professionalism and made every effort to help resolve this matter. Making false claims and engaging in online harassment like this is illegal. It is not an appropriate way to resolve any misunderstanding. Azimuth Works Inc Licensed General Contractor Seattle WA 98112

We recently completed our fourth remodeling project working with Azimuth Works. They do excellent work. Josh and his team are easy to work with. Great communication. We have also gotten great consultations on colors, materials and other things. So far they've installed a sliding door, painted and trimmed a room and built us a new patio, and restored our fence. We're having them build us a pergola next. Highly recommend their team.
