Did a complete fire restoration rebuild of our house. The restoration was over 6 weeks later than promised, and if you are looking for a contractor who's definition of quality is it just has to pass inspections and avoid arbitration, then use Bailey Family Builders. Several of his subcontractors were sub-par and he used day workers for many tasks.
He used subcontractors with limited experience on tile installation to install tile flooring throughout the entire house. They did not properly prep the underlying demoed subfloor to ensure it was clean or flat, nor did they use self-leveling spacers or any spacers. Nothing was done to ensure the tiles were level. Additionally, they used too much quick set or clean them before setting the grout so the grout lines are inconsistent colors throughout the house. So, now the entire house has lagging, "toe kicker" tiles. Even though we immediately pointed out that the tiles were uneven and not level after it was installed, he wanted us to walk the entire 2300 SQ Ft house and mark each tile with blue tape to identify which ones were issues...we told him it was all the flooring. His solution was to cover the floors and say they were fixed. After we continued to complain about the issue, especially in the kitchen and main living area, he had the same subs that did a horrible job on all the tile work come back out to fix the key areas...only one of the primary workers spoke English and T.W. was not onsite to ensure the work was done properly. To add to this, he billed us for the work and materials to fix the issues his subcontractors did.
The flooring was not the only issue. There were multiple issues with the window ordering and installation, fireplace installation, drywall cracking and nails popping through within 2 months of completion, not to mention the backyard stamped concrete patio was a disaster. Just so many items we had to address...and he was hardly ever there except to drop off materials, provide poor instructions to the subs (or have us there to provide the instructions to the subs and him leave), or to pay the subs.
Also, since this was a fire restoration, insurance claim includes an automatic 20% overhead and profit amount for all work. He charged us this 20% for work he didn't perform or materials he didn't purchase.
T.W. may been known in the industry back in the day but he is past his prime on delivering quality work (or quality subcontractors). I should have fired him at the beginning of the project when I asked repeatedly asked for a budget and project estimated timeline, promised to be given them, but ultimately was never delivered.
