    Bathroom remodel

We were more than happy with our bathroom remkdel...it was torn down to the walls and a total remodel. Brandt and his crew were very reliable..I loved that we had the same 2 staff in our home everyday. Brandt came by at least once a day to check on things and update us. We felt involved fully from start to finish. He listened to our ideas and offered pros and cons and helped us make choices we were comfortable with. Our remodel evolved in process and at the end were we so happy with how it turned out. It was truly more than we hoped for. The estimate was almost dead on, where it went up was due to changes we wanted after getting into the project. My new bathroom is beautiful and friends are amazed at the transformation. I high recommend Baker construction and he will be my contractor for my kitchen remodel.. beginningin with bidding process Brandt was professional from start to finish!

    Kitchen remodel
    $27,000

We were disappointed on our kitchen remodel. We had to point out many deficiencies to get them addressed. Paint runs, overspray on ceiling and walls, failure to put up barriers to keep dust contained, discarding an expensive chandelier we wanted to re-use, discarding the leftover tile that I wanted to keep for future needs that might arise, cabinets mounted off level, poor standards on work quality (exposed nails, unpainted areas on cabinets, etc)
I received eight bids on the job and Baker was second from the highest. I ignored some bad reviews because we felt he was attentive and had high standards. He said we wouldn’t be able to tell our repurposed cabinets from new. If you’re particular on cabinets being level, professional paint quality and things being done the right way, you may be let down.
The proper permits were not applied for. I noticed that no one from the city was inspecting the electrical work. Brant told me he pulled the permit, but the city said otherwise when I called them.
Later on, Brant told my wife that I stated he didn’t need to pull the permit. This is a fabrication.
After demanding that the proper permit was pulled, a licensed electrician inspected the work done by the unlicensed employee and the city was gracious enough to permit the work, after the fact, without ordering them to demo the walls and flooring to inspect. This could’ve gone badly. As a licensed contractor they are bound by law to pull appropriate permits. We, as the homeowner, would have to disclose to any potential buyer that work was done that wasn’t permitted or inspected. Add that our insurance company wouldn’t have to pay a dime if we suffered a loss related to out of code wiring as a result of their uninspected, unlicensed work. He made changes to our cabinet layout, without our consent, resulting in an abundance of drawers and a shortage of cabinets. We were promised a drawing of the cabinet layout for our approval that never happened. We regret our decision to trust our renovation to this builder. I’m hiring a professional painter to redo the cabinets.
A kitchen remodel is stressful enough when all goes to plan. Add poor communication, low quality work, skirting regulation and going five weeks past the completion date estimate and you put stress on top of stress.
