I was very happy to find Barry Brown. I needed new, better shingles on a shed, and also the shed doors were falling off. I was referred to him by the shed manufacturers, as they build, but do not repair. He was fairly local. Gave me an estimate over the phone, and I knew he was in the correct price range because I already researched it. I had my own painting company previously, so I knew what it takes to have all the proper equipment, including the truck. It also takes time to pick up the raw materials and wait to get the items rung up. Then what about disposing of all the shingles and old doors, etc. There is more to the repairs than just the finished product.
I have found that most local people may have health problems that force them to space their jobs out, and they don't have to punch a time-card. Every person I had hired local was like this and they did their job beautifully. Likewise, the large contractor I hired with guys working under them, left disasters behind them with the main head person trying to clean up the damage. I have more jobs for Mr. Brown and find that a telephone estimate not a problem as, he understands just what you want, relative to printed copies of a door, a window, or locks or whatever pattern you want. So, this is the person you want in your home as he is trustworthy and wants to do your job perfectly.

    rennovation/remodel
    $8,000
    60 days

Our experience with Barry Brown started off very good then quickly deteriorated when he became involved in other projects. We contracted Barry to replace our front door, install French doors, and redo the molding in our living room. I should have realized that something was wrong when he did not provide a written estimate. The first red flag was the 'miscommunication' over the cost of the front door. Barry said that the mistake in the verbal quote was the supplier's fault and that they would not honor the price that was quoted (the door ended up being $500 additional; however since I did not have anything in writing I could not dispute it). It took Barry several weeks (in addition to the lead time on the doors) to finally install the doors. Once Barry started, he assured me that the job would be finished in 2 days. On day 1 the doors were installed; however they were not painted. I walked into my front hallway to find Barry's wife standing in my house looking around. Barry stated that she was there to "help"; however she was dressed in scrubs on her way to/from work and primarily had her back to Barry as she looked around my house. Day 2: Barry finished cutting the molding, but did not paint it or either of the doors. He demanded payment in full despite the fact that the job was incomplete. Barry said that he would call to set up a time to return to paint everything. Weeks passed and I left several messages on his answering machine. When Barry finally returned my phone call he acted like he had no idea he was supposed to finish the project (complaining about a 'huge renovation' he was currently working on and that he didn't have time to finish). Once Barry was reminded of the stain color, he made excuses about not being able to find them (we found them on Amazon and had them in our possession in 2 days). When we notified Barry that we had the stain and were ready for him to complete the job, Barry informed me that he never stained a fiberglass door before and "would give it a shot." A few days later Barry called to say that he did not have the money to replace the door if he "messed up." It has been over a month since Barry started this project and it is still incomplete...not to mention that the work was sloppy. I am disappointed and beyond frustrated by my home looking like a construction site for a job that was supposed to last 2 days! Barry's communication is also very poor. Lots of excuses, no action. Barry takes on too much and then cannot deliver on his promises. I don't want him to come back!

Barry Brown and his wife Mary are awesome. Very inexpensive and quick to finish. Highly professional, exceptional quality, could have asked for more! They never tried to take advantage of my construction ignorance as most contractors do and have. I would give them both a ten if I could!!!

Barry, and his wife Mary, did an awesome job on our 2sty 28X15' addition. They did it in less time than predicted and did a high quality job. He also was very affordable, allowed us to make all decisions with his expert advise as a guide. Barry knows building and Mary knows design. Great team. We got an awesome addition and two new friends!!
