Well below expectations in craftsmanship, and offers sub par advice, if you can get them to show up in the first place. I don’t normally write reviews but this experience deserves every bit of my 1 star. If you decide that Battle Born Pool and Spa is right for you, Good Luck!
1. Autocover:
a. Once the pool was in, it took them 2 weeks to measure for the autocover and another 4 weeks to actually place the order which was finally delivered after 11 weeks and then subsequently needed to be sent back because it was ordered incorrectly.
b. The materials showed up 3” too wide due to a measurement error. He even showed me a picture of the incorrect measurement. This led to extra time and cost to ship the cover back to be cut and manufactured to the proper measurement on top of the 11 weeks.
c. They gave me guidance to pour the bond beam to the top of the fiberglass instead of to the top of the autocover track. After talking to two other pool installers I learned that this is not best practice and resulted in extra cost to have my decking installer fix.
d. The Autocover vault poured an extra foot long because he didn’t know or didn’t check that the Cover specifications were to be measured from the inside of the track.
e. They only offer the aluminum vault cover which is sub par if you want to actually jump into the pool from the deep end. In the end we’ll have a better cleaner product by moving our contract to a different supplier.2. Their plumber lied to the inspector, right in front of me indicating that the pressure testing held pressure from the day before. The Skimmer plug was bubbling at the time of inspection clearly not holding pressure.
3. The Lathum install instructions clearly specify that the skimmer line is supposed to be installed with 45 degree fittings to minimize the suction drag. They installed regular 90 degree elbows on the skimmer line. At the time I figured that they knew what they were doing but upon further inspection of the other things it appears to be another oversight in craftsmanship.
4. As for craftsmanship: They hit the fireplace with the excavator damaging the stucco, Installed the autofill cockeyed and below grade and installed the Autocover electrical conduit 6” from the house. They were even going to leave the job site without filling in the trench after the rough plumbing inspection was done. If I wasn’t there to question why they were leaving, who knows how long it would have taken to get them back to fill in the trench.
5. The electrical conduit was eventually removed because when talking to the electrician the power comes from the switch therefore would need three sets of wires instead of just one that I ended up with based on the electrician’s guidance. This showed a lack of understanding on how the autocover was wired leading me to believe that he doesn’t really know what he’s doing yet.
6. I was told at the time the rough plumbing was done that he could install the equipment in 3 days once the pad was completed. I let him know when the pad was scheduled to be poured so they could plan for scheduling. I was told when asking to get on their schedule a third time that pool closings were more important and they couldn’t get me on the schedule to install the equipment for 3 weeks from when I initially asked to get on the schedule.
7. They sent me an invoice on Sept 28 with a due date of Oct 11. I told them that I’d happily pay it when they finish the job. Their first response was to threaten me with a lien on the house even though we didn’t have a contract outlining their hourly rates for the work. The threats came 12 days before their own invoice indicated that it was due. Our relationship immediately deteriorated and became unrecoverable. The invoice was paid on the invoice due date after severing ties to the rest of the work that was supposed to be done.
