By Buddy R.March 13, 2017Plumbing Issues$500
I've had Bay Mechanical out to my house to fix a plumbing issue with a stoppage. They sent over Anthony. He was both fair and polite and explained to me in detail and in simple terms what the issue was and showed me the problem as well. Unfortunately my useless home warranty didn't cover it however I had them perform the service anyhow. I can joyfully use the bath and shower in my house. Thank you Anthony @ Bay Mechanical. If you need someone I HIGHLY recommend Bay Mechanical!!

Yes, we would highly recommended Bay plumbing. Our technician Anthony worked with us on a valve issue with our water heater as well as a home warranty obstacle. He went above and beyond the call of duty by calling two warranties companies covered by contacting them to resolve. This was something that most plumbers and technicians would not have touched due to administrative challenges. Anthony called both companies and helped us get resolve in a professional and courteous manner. Thank you Bay Mechanical and Thank you Anthony!

By Marilyn H.March 10, 2017Fix banging pipes, repair toilet that was not draining and kitchen faucet drip.3 days
Bay Mechanical was referred to us by our home warranty company to address and solve the problem of "banging pipes". Anthony was sent to our home to fix it. He was polite, efficient and worked diligently while here and took pride in his work. I would most definitely recommend Anthony for your plumbing needs!

By TalibMarch 3, 2017Water Heater Replacement$960Read more
Horrible people, horrible service, they do not even deserve ONE star. This is a legit review and you can refer to the attachment, explaining how they rip people off. People, please be really careful if your home warranty people appoint these guys to install a water heater, AC unit or something similar. My water heater started leaking so my home warranty company appointed to solve the issue. The person showed up and told us that the water heater needs to replaced. OK so far so good. But then, he mentioned that I would need to pay $960 out of my pocket to meet the upgrade code. Now, please keep in mind that a brand new water heater by a reputable company with 6-9 years of warranty is $500 at home depot. If you install it yourself, cool, you save the labor money, but even if someone to come and replace it for you, they should not charge you more than $250 if your water heater is located in a garage and is really easy to be replaced. With my home warranty buying the heater and paying the labor, why do I have to pay $960 out of pocket, that is where their receipt/invoice comes in to play, please refer to the attachment and see how they were trying to charge me $235 for an expansion tank, which you can find for less than $50 bucks at Lowe's or Home Depot. $145 for a $10 part and $110 for something that literally takes less than 60 seconds of labor. That is not it. They were trying to sell me a water heater with only 1 year warranty, not to mention, manufactured by a company which has barely any review online. Now, initially, I agreed for them to come in BUT I did not agree to pay the $960 charge. After doing some research online, I found out that I can install a water heater by myself and get reimbursed by my home warranty. So I told them not to come to my place since I won't be needing their service anymore. Oh by the way, I made a huge mistake of giving them my credit card info, in case they were to come in for a checkup ($75). But, guess what, they charged my credit card for $960 and showed up at my place anyway. They also threatened to charge additional restocking/labor fees if I do not get their services. I declined their services anyway but still got my card charged. I have already disputed that with my credit card company and should be getting it all back since they did not perform any work AT ALL. I want all you guys out there to be really careful with such scams and rip offs and definitely stay away for Bay Mechanical. They should be reported to Better Business Bureau for such rip offs and fooling people.

The tech was efficient and professional. I had a leak in the main water line into the house. I had found where the leak was and the tech informed me it was a small pin hole and he would need to go to Lowes to get a coupling and would call his boss Mike for a price. The tech returned and quoted me 425.00, 10 dollars in parts and 1/2 hour labor. The tech was apologetic and even called Mike back to explain it was an easy fix. Mike adjusted the price to 400.00. What a rip off. I called and spoke to friendly woman and she said Mike would call me back. Wait for it. No call back. Do not use this company!

By Knowledgeable H.August 16, 2016Water heater replacement
Falsified "issues" with my water heater to compensate for low contracted fee with HSA. When asked which code violations, specifically in NFPA 54 were out of compliance, manager stumbled over his words to describe his liability, in an apparent attempt to raise fear and concern over the dangers of not buying into his proposal. Instead of using the warranty related call to build new customer relations, they tried to hit a grand slam with one call. Poor business plan, to say the least!

At 72 I have little tolerance and absolutely no knowledge about air conditioning. All I know is that when it breaks life becomes miserable. I was fortunate enough to be connected with this company who took great care of me and stood behind their work when a minor problem arose. You cannot go through life without small problems and it is a testamount to this company that they wasted no time in fixing my problem with no delay. I experienced two different service plumbers and both of them were first class. I would trust this company in the future since they kept to their word and resolved everything for me.. THANK YOU BAY.

By A F.May 11, 2016Replace AC and heating unit1 day
My husband and I were refered to Bay Mehanical Inc by our home warranty. They have come out several times for our AC and plumbing needs. We have had several technicians- Shane, Marty and Gary are just to name a few. They were all professional and timely. We trusted Gary in our home while we were at work. They replaced our entire AC and heating system in less than 5 hours. We ended up needing a new thermostat, and we were not told that. They replaced our thermostat without charge and an upgrade from what we had. The amount or home warranty said we owed, was the amount we paid. Gary worked hard to get the job done in a timely fashion and was very professional. Marty came and assisted Gary after finding out we needed the new thermostat. He even walked me through the set up process of the new touch screen thermostat. I would recommend them to anyone for their home repair needs. Bay mechanical has saved me money and was professional from day one, even when my home warranty company was not. Hire bay mechanical and you won't be let down!

I needed to have my evaporator coil replaced and and Gary from Bay Mechanical did an outstanding job from installation to cleanup. Gary's attention to detail and professionalism were noticed and much appreciated. The turn around time from identification of the problem to problem solution was fantastic. Thanks for keeping our home cool on the hot summer Carolina days.

Called and scheduled for a week out. After finally coming to review the issues, the contractor wrote the report and discussed the solution with my husband. After more than a week of not hearing back, I called to discover they had changed the proposed solution and ordered the parts without ever consulting me. We have been without air for two weeks and they just said they made the call because I would have to out of pocket some and the warranty company fights bigger repairs. I could not believe they switched without even a call to me and we have been without air for two weeks! They were rude and kept placing me on hold without even telling me they were going to put me on hold. I called and requested a new company be assigned. I will NEVER work with this company again. From the reviews, this is the right call.

By L. B.February 29, 2016Assess and replace two A/C units and two furnaces3 daysGary Carswell and Bay Mechanical were fantastic!
Our home warranty company sent Bay Mechanical to check our units that seemed to be blowing cold air when it was supposed to be heat. Long story short, two furnaces and two air conditioners were needed to replace the dinosaurs we inherited when we bought our house in August 2015. They sent Gary Carswell to do the intial assessment and subsequent work. I cannot say enough great things about Gary. He was prompt, kept me informed of when he was on his way and extremely hard working. He installed everything by himself! It was just amazing to watch. Gary has what I call an old fashioned work ethic. He works until it's dark if it's not done and he takes the time to explain things when you ask questions. Most of all, he puts quality first, not just rushing through the job. If I could have a Gary Carswell for everything I need (plumber, electrician), I'd be one happy person! A++ Bay Mechanical!

By Dave P.January 27, 2016Replace entire heating and air system$58084 daysReview of Bay Mechanical Service
I have had problems with our Heat Pump system since August 2015. The system was old and parts were hard to find. Bay Mechanical was the 2nd repair company engaged by the warranty company to work on unit. The first company fixed the first problem. The second problem was fixed by Bay Mechanical only after alterations to a new part were made since a new exact replacement was not available. When the unit switched to heat, another failure occurred and this time no part could be found. Bay Mechanical went to the warranty company strongly seeking full replacement of the entire system. The warranty company agreed. At this point Bay Mechanical's Marty, Amber, Gary, and John became key people in completing the successful install of a new system. They even cooperated with another contractor to alter the space where the old furnace had to be removed and the new one installed. Every part of this task set went according to schedule and a quality job has been done. All involved did their job well. A special thanks goes to Gary Carswell and to John for their quality work and pleasant attitude in working with all of us. The service was all it should be. All was completed on January 26, 2016 and to my satisfaction.

By MattJanuary 14, 2016HVAC$2,579Love Bay Mechanical!
I don't understand the negative reviews! Mike operates the Carolina Division. He is busy but cares and works tirelessly to solve problems every day. Sometimes people believe these services are free which is unfortunate. I think it's sad there is no feedback loop for the complaints.
Thanks! Matt -
By Angela S.January 5, 2016hot water heater$1,757AWFUL Company!
Worst company to deal with EVER! Management (Mike) cannot even tell you how much you will be responsible to pay, however he just called me demanding that I tell him if I want to go forward with the repair OR NOT. Complete bull crap. Who agrees to go forward without knowing financial obligation. He was rude, nasty and unprofessional. This company is shady along with their RIDICULOUS fake estimates to my insurance company. $1700 to replace a standard water heater, yes standard, not tankless! They gave my insurance company prices to laugh at. They are jacking the price up because they want to make up for their contracted prices with the insurance company. To me this is consumer FRAUD.

By AutumnDecember 29, 2015AC part replacement1 dayGood Contractor
A part on our AC unit went out and after contacting our home warranty company, we were referred to Bay Mechanical. The warranty company took forever to get the part but once they did Gary Carswell immediately showed up to fix it. He installed everything in a timely manner, and was very professional. I was impressed by the service.

By Mark B.November 24, 2015unclog kitchen sink$751 dayBay Mechanical plumbing service
Our home warranty company arranged to have a plumber come to unclog the kitchen sink in our condo, and Rhett and his assistant Jamie from Bay Mechanical were excellent. Not only did they manage to un-stick the clog (which was very deep), they even came back when our downstairs neighbor got water in his unit (which was NOT the fault of our plumbers, but a side-effect of a dicey set-up w/ a shared water line). This was well above-and-beyond the call of duty in my view, since the intial clog was probably outside our unit to begin with. I will call Bay Mechanical for any future plumbing issues for sure!

My a/c was blowing warm air so I contacted my home warranty American home shield and they referred me to bay mechanical. I was contacted my a young lady name Amber in a timely manner who was very helpful. She sent a technician out to my home and I needed a new compressor. Bay mechanical ordered my part and as soon as it came in they were out the next day to install it. I had a great experience with them and will definitely contact then in the future.

By David B.September 18, 2015Warranty AC issues (2 months no resolution)$15060 daysBay Mechanical Charlotte is Horrible!
Horrible company! Do not use them. AC issues from mid July 2015 to late Sept 2015. Still not fixed. They left my system not fully working on a Tuesday and left five screws unused from my inside unit. I taped it up because all the air was just flowing out. I do not know where the screws go. Got them back here on Friday and they tell me someone was sabotaging the outside unit, and left things unscrewed. I did not look how they left the outside unit, so I believe that is the way they left it.. They worked for an hour on Friday and then told me to call my warranty company to get someone else in for a 2nd opinion. They said the warranty company was not paying them enough to troubleshoot this anymore. They were not coming back. They called my warranty company and said I must be sabotaging my unit. Total lies to try to cover their incompetence. Also horrible about calling back and not easy to get in touch with.

By PrivateAugust 28, 2015AC36 daysTerrible
Terrible company. I had AC issues for over a month in the dead of summer. The wrong part was ordered and Bay Mechanical didn't notice the error until they were headed to my home thus creating a 10 day turn around until the "fix" was made. Our unit still wasn't fixed at that time due to the contractor not properly informing us of turning our AC off which caused another part to break...another 10day wait. Contractor didn't arrive during the scheduled appointment window and I had to call to find out he was running 2 hours behind. I spoke to the manager several times over this month long fiasco and was assured our issue was at the top of the list and an appointment would be scheduled the same day parts arrived or worse case the next day....each time we've waited atleast 4 days for an appointment and when I've placed calls to the manager who was "doing everything they could" I never received an answered call or call back. I would NEVER call on them for service.

By AnonymousJuly 7, 2015AC issuesNever called back despite warranty referral
This contractor was referred by my warranty company for an AC issue. It was urgent and 48 hours later, I'm still waiting for a call back. Called twice to get follow up. Fortunately, I didn't wait further and found someone else after complaining to my warranty co. I think I got lucky because it sounds from the reviews this company is not to be trusted and has poor customer service skills.

By AnonymousJuly 4, 2015Installed a water filtration system on my home$4001 dayBay Mechanical
Referred by my home warranty service. Tech was very diligent and resolved a very difficult problem even though it took many hours and approval from my warranty service. He was so good that when he offered to sell me a water filtration system, I bought it. When I had issues with it, the company would not verify that it was warrantied, advised that they would charge me a service call (min one hour) and would take my name and number for call back. They never called me back.

By Kim H.June 18, 2015AC repairAwful and unprofessional serviceRead more
I was referred to Bay Mechanical by my home warranty, American Home Shield. My story is very similar to a complaint already posted on this thread. They flat out refused to service my house in NC without talking to me (I'm the homeowner, and I have a friend that is renting the house.) They called me at 6am PST (I live in CA) and I called them back when I woke up a few hours later. They said they "didn't know who called me, but they would call me back." I said fine, and I never got a call back. This is the first time A contractor ever required talking to me in order to service the house. In any case, they told my tenants that it's my fault they haven't been there sooner because "I didn't call them back." My tenants said I did indeed call them and the "dispatch manager" there got very defensive and flat out refused to service the house. My tenant in his frustration called him a "F***ing idiot" and notified me.
I called the company AGAIN and told them that I tried contacting them but they were negligent and never returned my call. It's unprofessional to blame other people for their dropping the ball, especially to my tenants. How dare they! Then they wanted to blame my tenants for not servicing the house, saying, "you're tenant called me a f***ing idiot, so I'm not going there and I'm not sending my techs out there. We are a reputable company and don't deserve this, blah blah blah." I had enough of his immature blame game and I closed by saying, "My tenant was right! And I will be filing a complaint against you to my insurance company."
They told my insurance company the reason they never came to the house was because they couldn't meet an agreeable time, not because they were lazy and refused to service the house. I wonder how this company even stays in business. It blows my mind. -
By AnonymousMay 25, 2015Plumbing - Rusted pipes$1,50030 daysWorst Contractor EVER!!!Read more
NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!!! They are a ripoff. My husband and I had an issue where water was seeping out of hte brick wall on our house. Bay Mechanical sent a man to look at it. We were charged $75 for him to look at the brick and say that it was a $1500 repair job that would take all day and require 2 people. He said the galvanized piping was rusted out. The plumber DID NOT look at any pipes, DID NOT go into the crawl space, DID NOT look under the kitchen sink, nothing. My husband and I felt like it was a major issue and called the company back a week later after we had gotten the funds together. The secretary/scheduler did not have any paperwork on the estimate, did not know what the problem was until I told her, and let us know that the man who came out had been fired and did not file any paperwork. I scheduled an appointment that was 2 weeks out. I had to take a day off work. On that day, the plumber never showed up. My husband called and they said that they did not have any record of us making an appointment. When my husband explained the situation, he was told that he would be called back in 5 minutes with the paperwork. An hour later they still had not called. He had to call them back. Bay Mechanical stated that they had no record of us ever calling to make an appointment, there was no work order for supplies, nothing. They then said they would come out the next day. Realize again, I had to take the next day off of work also. Later on that day, they called back and left a message saying they would not be out until next week Tuesday. I called and asked to talk to the manager/owner. I explained everything that happened and said that I was unhappy and that this was poor customer service. The manager/owner said and I quote "If you don't like it, go use someone else." Throughout our discussion, he was rude and did not show any empathy for his company screwing up. He continued to maintain that we never called to make an appointment. I advised him that I could send him a copy of my phone records showing where we called and talked to the secretary to make an appointment. He again told me that I could use a different company if I was unhappy. Despite the fact that the original man was fired, didn't file any paperwork, etc., the owner/manager was certain that it would still be $1500, an all day job, and would take all day. After I hung up, my husband and I called around and talked to a different plumbing company. They came out right away, and gave us an estimate of $800-$850. The plumber also fixed it right away and it took about 2 hours (NOT all day), and it only took one man. The plumber also let us know that we had other pipes that we would need to fix soon (Bay Mechanical never even looked at the pipes and did not let us know anything). I highly recommend South End Plumbing LLC in Charlotte, phone number 704-919-1722. I would only go to Bay Mechanical if I wanted to waste my time and money.

By AnonymousApril 21, 2015Home Warranty - Hot Water Heater Repair$N/ATerrible and Un-professional
I had a similar experience to the December 5, 2014 complaint. Bay Mechanical seems to have entered into an agreement with home warranty companies, however does not appear to want the work. I placed a request with my home warranty company, and then called Bay Mechanical after receiving the e-mail confirmation from the home warranty company. I called to see if I could get on the schedule today, if there were any openings. I was told that until he received the confirmation e-mail from the home warranty company that he would do nothing. I asked him about his schedule for the day and that I understood that work could not be completed without the confirmation. All I wanted to know was if he had any openings for the day, and he was unwilling to even answer that question. It seems like he doesn't want the work and doesn’t like interacting with customers. In my opinion he is an un-professional person and I would never want in my home performing services. I doubt his unprofessionalism it had anything to do with race (as the other reviewer had mentioned) as my interaction with him was similar and only via phone call. Do not use this business, there are plenty of other good companies out there.

By AnonymousDecember 5, 2014Garbage Disposal$$75Read more
This is a formal complaint regarding Bay Mechanical Incorporated, specifically employee James Moore. Mr. Moore was to come to my home on 12/4/2014 to service a garbage disposal between 2:00-3:00 pm. He showed up at approximately 5:00 pm on that date. When he entered my home, I showed him where the disposal was. He abruptly went pass me into the kitchen stating that I had to provide him the service fee of $75 before he could start the job. That statement took me aback. I said to him that I had never paid a service worker before the job is completed. He stated that he would be leaving if I did not give him the money. Realizing that Mr. Moore seemed agitated and that the work needed to be done, I wrote him a check for the service fee prior to the completion of the job against my better judgment.
After getting the check, he then went out to his truck and brought back a boxed replacement disposal. I asked him what brand of disposal that he was going to install. He stated “It is an off-brand and what did I expect for $75”. He was clearly agitated with me for having asked the question and continued to display very rude behavior. He further stated that if I was so concerned about the brand of the disposal that he would leave. Considering his obvious poor attitude, I then told him that I no longer needed his service. He stormed out of my home with my check in his pocket. Since he had not provided any service and apparently did not like the questions that I was asking about the job, I asked him to return my check. I followed him to his truck, where he loudly stated that he would not return my check and said that he would tell American Home Shield (AHS) that I refused his service and "kicked him out of the house". Of course, I did not kick him out of my home.
I am a loyal customer of AHS for almost ten years having never had this kind of problem or any problem with previous service providers. James Moore was rude, short tempered and seemed to simply not want to be in my home or to service my needs. This has never happened to me before and unfortunately I believe once he saw that I was an African American, it appeared he did not want to do the job. I am a 68 year old senior citizen and have on countless times experienced racist behavior. That is my opinion because I cannot think of any other reason why he was so rude. I did a "stop payment" on the check that he refused to return. I will not pay for a service that was not done nor even was attempted to be done.

Horrible, horrible people that do not care about their customers or value them! I had an 8-10am window appointment with them this morning and made arrangements to be available and at 11:30am their technician was still 1.5 hours and 100 miles away from my home. Read tons of similar reviews that stated that people waited until 5pm for 8am appointments and this company will just stop answering their phones.....what a company....I didn't hire them....my worthless home warranty company did(American Home Shield) because they always hire 3rd rate companies to work on your home. Please save your dignity, sanity, and time and do business with someone that appreciates you! And btw, their office staff is very rude as well....Jessica and Tara tried to make their scheduling problems my fault? "Lack of preparedness on your part, does not constitute an emergency on mine.....bad business....sad."
