If it was possible to leave no stars I would choose that option. We hired Mike Fitzgerald to do an addition on our home and it was a nightmare. The project was supposed to be done in 7-9 months and it took 13 months. During the course of the project there were three different leaks in our home because the roof wasn't secured properly. THREE. BECAUSE HE KEPT MAKING THE SAME MISTAKE. Each time we called Mike frantically and each time we got no response. Those leaks caused extensive damage and we lost access to part of our home for MONTHS while Mike took his time getting everything fixed. We saw little evidence of any project management skills; he was constantly forgetting to order things on time, forgetting to follow up with his own subs on whether or not work was completed, forgetting to let us know what was going on- to the point that my husband, who has a full time job- had to become the project manager, complete with a spreadsheet and weekly calls with Mike to keep him on track. Several times work had to be re-done- like concrete pulled out, pipes that were "accidentally" cut had to be reconnected- for dumb mistakes and lack of follow up and communication. Every week there was a new issue, so much so that among our friends it became a joke to ask "what did Mike screw up this week?" If it were just mistakes, that would be one thing, but it was more than that. He misled us to believe that several elements of construction were included in the contract but then reneged and tried to make us pay extra. There was work he said he would complete that he refused to complete. and we are going to have to come put of pocket for work that he should've done like concrete repairs.
I can make peace with giving him one star for construction that meets the minimum standard, but this is not the company to hire if you want someone competent who will care about your home like they care about their own and do the work in a timely, professional manner.
