I hired Benning Carpentry of Atlantic, IA to remodel and update a home in which I had purchased. Part of the remodel included removing a built-in desk to open up a room. The thermostat was located on the wall which was to be removed. I asked the carpenter if he would be able to move the thermostat without any problem and he assured me this could be done. The air and heating unit was in proper working condition prior to the remodel, however, after it was moved it no longer worked. Benning Carpentry did not fix the problem and I had to hire someone else to repair the unit. The HVAC tech that repaired the unit informed me that wires had been crossed and burnt which was the reason my unit was not working. It cost me $930 to repair. I relayed this information to Benning Carpentry and asked that he submit a claim to his professional liability insurance. He has refused to do so.
Concurrently, Benning Carpentry also agreed to install a concrete countertop. The seal was not applied properly resulting in scratch marks, chipping, peeling and bubbling of the finish. The carpenter refused to produce a satisfactory countertop stating that it was a "product failure" and therefore, he reported that he was not responsible for the poor finish.
