  Install a concrete patio

  $8,000

  RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN from this contractor! I hired them to install a concrete patio and paid $8,000. The job was to include permitting, garbage removal, 10 year warranty. Here is a list of what is wrong: Lied about getting a permit (said it was all done by email when I asked for a copy of the permit), I checked with the town and nothing is on file. One-third of the patio is blotchy and multicolored (dark and light gray), and another contractor told me they used two different concretes. He (John) told me that it would dry all one color, and refused to come back to paint or stain it (no answer for text or a certified letter). The patio was installed 7.5" short all the way around, and now my 4x4" borders for the garden and path do not line up. John said he "wanted me to be happy", and would come back to move the 4x4's to meet the new dimensions. I paid him in full, but when I asked him if I needed to hold back $1,000 - he swore he would come back and shook my hand. They took all of the concrete trash, but left the old 4x4's / rebar / 3 pallets on my front lawn (from the concrete delivery). I dragged everything to the curb and some other guys wanted it (not Bergen Pride people). I also sent a certified demand letter (to 725 River Road in Edgewater) and it was returned with "not deliverable as addressed". I have never filed an online complaint before - just want to warn others. John does not stay on the job to supervise, and lies through his teeth saying what he thinks you want to hear. How is the job warranted for 10 years if you cannot get the company to fix what's wrong in the first place, and you can't reach them by text, calls or letters? Horrible company and I feel like I've really been taken... I am just so angry every time I step into the backyard because of how much I paid and taken advantage of trying to get them to make things right. FYI...John has an Irish brogue (and I have a sneaky suspicion that John's friends "Micheal P and Micheal S") have put up great reviews (that's how you spell Michael in Europe/Ireland). I am filing with the BBB and the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs...and any other online company review place that I can find.

  Paver powerwash and sealant

  Contracted to power wash pavers and put 2 coats of sealer on top to prevent weeds from coming through. Check made payable to a person, not the company. Was told it was guaranteed for 10 years. Paid receipt to be sent by home office. Within 10 days the weeds began appearing again. Additionally, he washed his truck with my water without permission and he parked his truck in my driveway forcing us to park at a neighbors house overnight. Many phone calls and text messages sent with no response. No receipt ever received. Avoiding taxes???? Bad business. Have reported them to BBB, next up is Department of Consumer Affairs and both Federal and State taxation departments.
