DO NOT PAY THESE PEOPLE UP FRONT! The City of Milton Georgia Police are looking for them to arrest them! Office J.D. Reece (Badge #1140) Case number 17-00665

In my lifetime I have left a great number of reviews. Nearly every one of them positive. I do not like leaving negative reviews but I have to warn people about this couple. When I say this couple I mean Steven and Valery Baur or Bauer. They spell their name one way in email and another in documents so I am showing both spellings. This couple and two helpers appear to be the entire company. Their two employees seem to be a couple of nice guys but even they will admit that there is something wrong with their employer.

We employed this couple (Steve Baur and Valery Baur), advertising themselves as Best Price Cabinets & Woodworking of Cumming Georgia (770-597-8255) on November 15th of 2016. When I say we, I mean my employer and I. They were to build custom kitchen cabinets and two wall units with bookshelves and wanted $14,000.00 upfront (about 60%) saying that we had to “take a chance” to work with a company like theirs.Their price was lower than the other company that we used for a previous project so we made the decision to pay them before we received anything. Right away they started to show signs that things might not be as they described. First they told us that they would not design the cabinets unless we paid them separately for the design. We found this curious as I am not sure how you would make a custom kitchen without a design but we looked at our agreement and sure enough, it did not say that they would design anything, only build and install it. Admittedly, we fest this additional fee was nominal so we paid them. After reviewing the first design that they made, we were told that because we wanted to change the design, the price would be higher. They stated the the deposit was non refundable as they had started building already because they were to install the cabinets before the new year. Of course, this was a big red flag but what were we to do? We did not want to lose all of the money we invested and their reviews were good so we moved forward. On the 9th of December they contacted us and told us that they were ready to deliver the cabinets but would need an additional $8,171.72 at the time of delivery. Although this was almost everything that would be owed, we thought that delivery meant that the cabinets would be installed and the contract stated that payment was due on delivery so we agreed.

They delivered the cabinets and received their check. Then they left without installing them! We called them right away and they informed us that their “team” would be out the very next day to install. One week later the team arrived but only after we made several calls to them. The installation was sporadic and rife with excuses like, we have to remake these doors that don’t fit perfectly, and we had change the hardware. These delays tooks months not days and there were times that we thought that they would never put them in. Valery became belligerent and verbally abusive. Demanding we do things her way. Even once stating that she did not want to see us at the property or they would not show up to continue the installation. This was appalling to us but they had our money. We had to do what they said and we knew it. Then, in late January, they claimed they were finished. We checked and found that most doors were crooked and one drawer would not even open. The opening for the refrigerator was 6 inches shallower than their own design specs. The cabinets on the back wall came 4 inches shorter than the wall. There were no handles on anything. When questioned about these things Valery accused us of making this up and that everything was in order. What? How could she say this? It is verifiable by simply looking at them. Even after they met and were shown this problem, they still felt that the job was “within tolerance”. Furthermore, she informed us that the contract never said that we would have any handles and that we are responsible for installing our own handles. So at this point, we had very crooked, non fitting expensive custom cabinets without handles. We insisted that this situation be ameliorated before final payment. This infuriated them but they did agree, if we purchased handles, they would install them and fix the cabinets.

We purchased nearly $500 worth of handles, waited for them to arrive and provided them in late February. We did not even want to talk to Steven or Valery but to get this job finished, we had to call them. After at least two calls per week over the course of a month. They again came out and stated that they were finished. We had let them in while we were gone to do the work and when we arrived home we saw it. The handles were on but many were crooked. Some doors didn’t fit and at least two of them were warped. (PLEASE LOOK AT THE PICTURES I ATTACH)

Well, they wanted $1,600 plus $400 for fixing the refrigerator depth (remember they knew the specific model of the refrigerator we were using before we ever signed a contract), $400 for putting in spacers to take up the 4 inches the cabinets were short of the wall. Incidentally, this made two of the custom cabinets appear uneven as one side had a two inch spacer and the other did not.

We chose not to pay them until the job was done. Well, they evidently did not want to fix it. Now is where it gets really bad.

This project is in the home where my employer resides. He had surgery two days earlier and was lying in bed when in came his fiancee’ to tell him that there was someone going into the kitchen over the garage apartment. When she went out to see what was going on, it was Steve and Valery Baur, they had entered the home without an invite and had loaded some of the cabinet doors and drawers into their truck. When his Fiance asked them what they were doing, they said that they had not been paid and they were taking the cabinets. My employer was forced to come out and confront them and after reasoning with them Steven changed his story to say that they wanted to take them back to their shop to fix them and reinstall later that week.. He, wanting to believe the best, thought that he should give them the benefit of the doubt and they left. The next time the spoke, we were told that they were not coming back and would not even talk unless they had cash brought to their doorstep in advance!

That was it. We called the City of Milton Police department and told them what had happened. Office J.D. Reece (Badge #1140) opened Case number 17-00665 stating that when they went into the home without an invite, that was a crime. When they took things from the home that this was theft by taking, when they took the handles that they did not even provide and were purchased separately, that further bolstered the case against them.

It is my understanding that the police contacted them but now they are hiding from the police to avoid arrest. I uploaded photos of their work to show the lack of quality but please, do not work with Steven Baur or Valery Baur aka: Best Price Cabinets & Woodworking of Cumming Georgia 770-597-8255. If you choose to work with them, please, whatever you do, do not provide them with money up front. They change into absolute monsters once they have the leverage to do so.

Please look into their case and arrest record!
