By Christine O.March 28, 2018$30,000Response from Better Than New Homes Inc October 25, 2018Christine Othman was not my client. She was the property manager the home owner wanted to act as her representative. She had a strange notion that she was a designer - very incompetent. I tried hard to work with Christine, but I had to tell the homeowner that I could no longer work with Christine. Immediately after I advised the homeowner that I couldn't work with Christine, then Christine went on a campaign to defame me personally. Please see my full response on Google where she also defamed me. A word about Build-Z..... they use a tactic to create a file on contractors without the contractor's awareness. Then open up to the public to post negative comments. This tactic forces contractor's to create a profile in order to respond. Then I have a choice to let a defaming negative post to stand alone.... or .... beg my other customers to go on Build-Z and post positive reviews. This tactic increases Build-Z's database of customers to advertise their service. Unethical.

This is fair warning to anyone who is researching contractors in San Diego: Stay away from this strange individual. Chris Sterger, the owner, is unskilled, irresponsible for his own mistakes, and seems to get a perverted pleasure in engaging in endless arguments about semantics rather than solving customer concerns related to his work.
He threatened to quit halfway through the remodel project for some argument on the phone, which was over semantics; apparently, the words I used weren't compatible with his ego.
He spent much of his time deflecting conversations away from the issue I had with his work, and spent most of his energy interpreting the meaning of specific words I used in my complaints. It was as though he didn't want to confront my concerns at all, but instead tried to force me to adjust my choice of words to appease his ego. Conversations with this individual never ended cordially or with any kind of agreement. He has no respect for his customers, and not enough skills to justify that behavior.
Also, the project for which I hired him took 3 months rather than one, because his workers were not always available, or because, as he claimed, I didn't provide him the information he needed. On one occasion, I went to the job site to check the progress of the work, and asked one of the workers about a color that was going to be used. For this, Mr. Sterger called me and scolded me like a child for having made verbal contact with his worker. I've never been treated like that by anyone I've ever hired. When he claimed to be finished with the work, I was shocked how much was left undone. Once the cabinets were finished, I noticed an empty hole where the stove and microwave were supposed to be. The drawings which he provided us and were signed by the homeowner showed a microwave above the stove; he left the microwave out completely and was surprised that we expected to have what was in the drawings. In the end, and after another 4 weeks delay for various excuses on his part, he left us with crooked cabinets, the wrong window blinds, and an unfinished closet door.
In short, the experience was long and torturous. One of the most stressful and painful interactions I've ever had. I would like to warn the world about people like this. Pay the higher bid, this man is not worth it.
