By Ilene H.November 6, 2020detached garage with apartment
PLEASE READ!!! We contracted Chris Bailey to build a detached garage with a apartment above. That was August 1, 2019 and construction was not even started until December 2019 and that was only a slap of concrete. Fast forward to September 17, 2020 when the brick we paid for on April 3, 2020 was finally complete. The brick layer did not get paid for labor and was threatening to take off our brick! We had 50% completion at this point and Chris had been paid all but 9,000.00 of the completed project. Needless to say that was last we heard of him. I am now my own contractor and I have got most of the job completed and have paid all my subcontractors. Unlike BGT construction!
Response from Bgt Construction, LLC February 10, 2021This review is the process of litigation. There is one fact correct in this statement, they did pay for the brick...material only not labor. The owner of the property, which is not the reviewer, was issued an invoice to pay the bricklayers and he stated that he had already paid for the brick. I explained that he had paid for the actual material and not the labor. He refused to pay. Our contract states that when an invoice goes unpaid, we have the right to give a 7 day notice to pay the outstanding invoice or we will suspend work until the outstanding balance is paid. The customer did not pay this invoice even after we presented copies of invoices he had received and paid and brick labor was not included in any payments. The project was in fact at approximately 78% and we had only drawn 76%. The customer had paid for the cabinets of approximately $4,000, but the brick labor was $5,200. The cabinet funds were used to offset the brick labor nonpayment. What the reviewer failed to mention on the time line was that the property was not zoned for the type of project they had requested. They had stated they had talked with the county and that it was within the zoning. I do not fault the customer in this because it has happened to us as well on other projects. We at our own expense and time, applied for a special use permit to the county, sent out all the notices required and presented it to the planning commission. A typical charge to handle this is $2,500, but we did it as part of our original contract. This is not a quick process. You have to post signs with the notice of zoning change along with mailing letters to other residence of the subdivision. Residents have 30 days to object before it can even be scheduled for the planning commission. This delay took us into the winter months and in the Middle Tennessee area, winters are cold and wet. Once we had the slab framed up, a county engineer put a stop work order stating we were too close to a stream. We immediately flagged the distances and were not within 15 feet of the stream. It took the engineer another 3 weeks to remove the stop work order. Approximately three months into construction, the sister of the owner was pressuring us for a completion date so she could turn in her notice to her apartment. We explained we would give her plenty of notice to do this, but she made her own decision to turn this notice in and had to move into the existing residence which had tension to say the least. During this same time frame, we were presented with a letter from a local attorney stating that the customer had paid over $50,000 for $10,000 worth of work. At this point of construction, the slab had been completed along with the framing, roofing, electrical, plumbing and HVAC rough-ins. The slab itself was $10,000. Again in the above review, these numbers are being exaggerated and not correct in the least. The homeowner had purchased several items such as appliances and failed to count this towards the amount left in construction. This customer has filed a $200,000 lawsuit on a $77,000 project. This only goes to show the disconnect between their position and reality. The have posted on several website that we were thieves with not description or details of the theft; because there are none. We in turn are in the process of defending our 20 year reputation with only 2 complaints in 20 years out of over 1,100 projects from small projects to projects valued at $2,000,000. Reviews are always welcomed so as long as they are truthful and accurate. In Tennessee the first party of a contract to breach can not claim equity when they denied equity. In this case, there was a material breach of contract when the brick labor was not paid, therefor, they were the first to materially breach the contract. Please feel free to contact us for any documentation that backs up our statements above and we will be glad to provide them to you. 615-810-2000. -

I'd give them a zero if I could because they've been working on one bedroom and one bathroom for over 6 months and it still not finished. It better be on budget, I havent given the last of their money yet.

By AnthonyJanuary 20, 2016Water damage repair$9,00030 daysCame to the rescue!
Chris and his team came to our rescue last year after an ice dam caused extensive water damage to ceilings, walls, & floors. They provided mitigation and clean up, helped us deal with ever changing insurance adjusters, and got the work done well, in a reasonable amount of time, and at a very fair price. They worked around our schedule and were very careful with everything in our home while doing repairs. Honest and reliable folks! Highly recommend.

By Dan L.January 19, 2016Our house flooded due to ice damns and BGT contacted us at 10:30 that night and were there for clean$49,00030 days
Working with BGT Construction, LLC was a plesant experience. No issues with any of the employees as they treated our house and belongings as if they were their own belongings. The cleaned up after each day and tried to make sure our lives were disrupted as little as possible. It did take a longer than what we originally discussed, but, we were told on the front end they will wait on certain subcontractors and that the completion date could be extended. Overall very satisfied with the quality and their attention to detail. Great couple of guys to work with!

Avoid this company and specifically Chris Bailey at all costs. We hired and signed a contract with Chris Bailey/BGT Construction in January 2020 to build an addition on our home. We ended up firing him in August 2020 due to a myriad of issues including blatant lies, fraud, lack of work, and incompetence. What should have been a 3 month project got stretched out for 9 months (with a completion of only 50%) until we were fed up with the lies, dishonesty, and excuses. Chris lied to us on numerous occasions and went so far as to fabricate fraudulent invoices and/or receipts to justify his unethical business practices. We tried to work through these issues by sending a demand letter per the contract we signed to fix the multiple outstanding issues. This was ignored and he did not try to resolve any of our issues. He ended up walking away owing us approximately $10,000 from unused deposit money and he stole $7,000 from us when we paid for materials (windows and HVAC unit) that he refused to purchase and/or deliver. This is an individual and company that cannot be trusted and will only rip you off. We sued him in October 2020, he did not show for court, so we were awarded default judgement. He claimed he would appeal, but did not as well. He also said he would pay us back, but has yet to pay us one penny from the money he misappropriated and stole. After leaving a couple negative reviews, he had an attorney send us a Cease and Desist letter, but we are not going to be deterred as we are willing to fight any attempts to silence our displeasure over everything we allege. Every aspect and phase of the build was marred by problems. The concrete pad was not poured in its entirety, the block work was not done to correct grade height, there were issues with the rough-in plumbing, simple measurements were not taken and the I-joists that were ordered were too short causing additional time delay and increased cost. There was a laundry list of corrections and errors with the framing, and the roof that was installed was not properly ventilated. Our biggest issues outside of the shoddy work that we received were the dishonesty and outright lies. He claimed that we could not have a front facing door on our addition due to codes. I checked with codes after firing him and this was a blatant lie. He lied about locking in a lumber package as we had several purchases of lumber through at least 3 different vendors. He also tried passing off an old HVAC unit as new and even provided a fraudulent invoice without a date for retail price. He was told repeatedly we did not want to pay one penny to run a gas line, and he said this was included in rough-in plumbing. He then tried to charge us $1,500 for an unauthorized and unapproved work item. He pushed this because he was trying to slough off the old gas powered HVAC unit. On top of the lies and shoddy work, he does not have a reliable network of subs, most likely because he does not pay them either in a timely manner or what they are owed. While the contract was active, BGT averaged less than 6 hours per week working on our project. That is factoring out weather delays. Chris claimed this was due to Nashville's labor shortage and/or COVID. These are outright lies or excuses. Please, do not entertain hiring this company or individual. You will only be fed lies, excuses, and will most certainly be ripped off or stolen from.
