Below is my unfortunate experience with Ami and B H Remodeling and Design, now serving Irvine, and not the San Fernando Valley. Since firing Ami, I have made many other discoveries in regards to his shady business practices, including operating with a suspended contractors license (CSLB) which he has now cleared. My experience is not the only one. Ami has been reviewed similarly on Yelp and the Better Business Bureau. During the 4 months I worked with him, he was only able to complete approximately 20% of my ADU. Through my propensity in trusting people he was able to get tens of thousands of dollars from me.
I am currently waiting for Ami to give me some paperwork that he was not supposed to have kept. I have not resolved my matter with Ami. The timer below starts the moment Ami cashed my first check. I will stop it, but not delete it, when he and I come to a resolution. At the moment he is just ignoring me.
Click here to see the timer.
Below are some facts that will help you come to your own conclusions about Ami:
He shook my hand, met my family, including my small boys, mother and mother in law.
He was friendly. We talked about family values. He mentioned he was a religious man.
His original crew always complained about him and stated he did not pay them. They refused my help in recouping their money. I don’t know why. They stated he was moving money from my job to another. They never returned.
Ami’s office was a PO Box in Northridge. He changed addresses to Irvine without notifying me.
He does not write his last name on his contracts.
He provides many excuses for his lack of progress. His favorite seemed to be “Sorry, I thought I sent that email/text.”
He does not have any office assistants. It’s just him. He told me his customers range from San Diego to Oxnard. That is a big area to cover for only one person. Maybe that is why he didn’t oversee my project properly and missed many inspections, he, himself scheduled.
The data below is from LADBS as it relates to inspections of my project:
15 instances that were declared “not ready for inspection”;
5 instances that were declared “no access for inspection” (Ami was not present when he said he would be),
2 instances that were declared “corrections issued”;
1 instance that was declared “partial approval”;
and only 3 instances that were declared “Approved”. Only 3 “Approved” in 4 months.
Ami never told me the city inspector posts notes inside the project. I never saw these notes. Ami has them.
Ami hires subcontractors and does not pay them. Two of them came to my home demanding payment from Ami or me.
When I mentioned this to Ami he did nothing for several days.
One subcontractor told me he was going to undo the work he had done at my home.
Another subcontractor threatened to put a lien on my home.
My home was damaged from improper work.
He never removed the trash/debris from my home. It’s still here.
Although I have much more to say, I will leave my list at 20.
I hope Ami responds to this post so I can share more details along with pictures, screenshots, ring camera footage and city inspection documents.
