I contracted with Derek Ancalade on July 27th for 3 relatively small projects after his business (originally identified as Riverbank Landscaping) was recommended by Home Advisor. To date, I have paid Derek (who now claims to be with Big Easy Landscaping) over $6,000 and not a single one of the projects has been completed. Similar to Jules V., I have heard every excuse imaginable including onset of an unexpected illness and subsequent 7-day hospitalization and problems with one of his material suppliers, Wilson Iron Works, which based on my searches doesn't appear to exist. Do yourself a favor and do not do business with this man!

Do yourself a favor and pay attention to all the negative reviews. Also search any company related with Derek Ancalade and you will find more negative reviews. We contracted with him in January and it is now July and he has given every excuse under the sun not to start. Every time it is someone else fault that he cannot start. He will also blame the customer as well. He also is not a licensed landscaper. I am not even sure he has a legitimate business. Be aware that there are several others in the same boat. Do not waste your time and money. Please also spread the word so that no one else supports this scam artist.

6/20/19 UPDATE: DO NO USE BIG EASY LANDSCAPING-HE IS SCAM ARTIST AND WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY! So the saga continues with Big Easy Landscaping. We still do not have our money back from them even though he promised he would. This despite our filing a complaint with the Attorney General's office and receiving assistance from them as a mediator. Derek was contacted by the AG's office on 6/4/19 in an effort to try and settle this matter out of court. Derek promised the AG he would refund us our money in exchange for removing our Social media posts. He claimed he would have the $4500 in 15 days delivered to the AG in Baton Rouge. We agreed. He counter asking us to remove our posts first. We declined that and he still agreed to have the money to the AG on 6/19/19. Well, he did not deliver. We did not get our money yesterday nor did he call the AG with a reason as to why. I am sure he will call in a day our two and say either his dog died again, he or a family member were in the hospital. See, this is his normal MO. We will be filing a complaint today with the Secretary of State regarding his licenses. We have also been contacted by the LA Agriculture Department to investigate him AGAIN as he does not have a horticultural license in the state of LA.
Since April, I have been contacted and am talking to 7 people who are having the same issue.
He low balls the estimate, takes a small deposit and never comes through with his end of the contract. Do yourself a favor, us another contractor even if the cost is higher.
This is a man that will lie to the LA Attorney General's Office-Do ya really want to do business with him? -

WARNING WARNING WARNING: The owner of this company Derek Ancalade is SCAM ARTIST at BEST! He took a very large deposit from me to start a job in March and the job has still not begun! He will either ignore your calls and texts or give you some lame excuse as to why he can’t start the project. Since my first meeting with him in February there has been a death in the family, rain, the death of a dog, rain, finishing a previous project that ran over, rain, cabinets were ordered wrong, a long hospitalization, more rain!!! Today I HAD ENOUGH after this last text and I AM DONE!!!! I was promised OVER and OVER that my project would be done by Easter and now THIS!!!! It is absolutely disgusting that I have now had to hire an attorney!!!! I AM WARNING YOU...DO NOT GIVE THIS MAN YOUR MONEY!!!! If he can screw over a single mother who has been through A LOT (he knows my story) he WILL do this over and over gain until he is out of business which I fully intend to happen!!!!!! I only gave him a 1 because I would not have been able to warn anyone otherwise!!! AN UTTER TRAVESTY!!!

I hired Big Easy landscape to install my outdoor kitchen and they offered us the most professional services from the very beginning to the end. The owners of this company definitely deserve a 5 star review. I definitely recommend Big Easy Landscape for any of your outdoor needs!!!

On May 16, 2019 my wife and I signed a contract with Derek Ancalade of Big Easy Landscaping and provided a deposit for a project to extend our driveway while adding other features to our front yard. Per the contract, work was to begin May 22, 2019 which did not happen. The reason we received from Derek was that is dog became ill. From this point till now it has been almost impossible to reach Derek or his business partner Todd as neither of them return phone calls and seldom respond to text messages. After exercising extreme patience from hearing of excuses about his dog, weather delays, material shortages; we have concluded that our deposit of $3,890.94 was taken with no intention of fulfilling his contractual obligations. As June 28, 2019 work still has not begun nor have we received our deposit. We have taken him to court and won our judgement, but now he refuses to show up to court to make payments to refund our deposit. His fraudulent fiance currently is saying that the company took advantage of hom and he is terminally ill. But a review was just posted a month ago and they are still ripping people off. My wife and I both served in the Marine Corps for over 20+ years and have never dealt with such dishonesty and unprofessional people. DO NOT use this company!!! They are frauds and will steal your money.
