    Pool renovation

Mike was friendly, knowledgeable, and gave the best estimate out of the other 4 pool services we got estimates from. Mike was kind enough to drive to Brooksville and meet us early one morning so we could pick out our pavers as we needed to see bigger samples to know what we wanted. The work began on the pool within a few days of ordering the pavers. As the pavers were being laid, we noticed a group of them that were discolored. We pointed this out to Mike and he got new pavers and replaced the bad ones. It being our first time renovating a pool, we did not know all the steps to the process. Came home from work one day to find the grout color in-between the coping was no where near the color we wanted. We had sent a picture to Mike to show him what we wanted when picking out the pavers & coping earlier in the process. Our first phone call to Mike didn't go so well and he was unwilling to fix the problem. We called him back later that day to continue the conversation and at that point he was able to reconsider and see what he could do to get the problem fixed. He called back an hour later and said the workmen would be out the next day to drill out the wrong grout color and put in the correct color. The pool was finished a week later and looks fantastic. When putting the pool tile in he made sure to ask what grout color that time around so there were no further issues. We had a couple of pavers with edges sticking up that could clip/cut a toe if hit just right, he had us identify those few spots and the workman came out promptly and fixed them. The pool tiles we chose were more than the basic tiles put into the quote, and so he told us the extra cost ($350) and we then agreed to pay the extra for the tiles we wanted. We had a pool light issue, and Mike was ok with us waiting to pay for the renovation in full, until after we had hired an electrician who identified the lighting problem which was not related to the renovation. Mike was also ok with us not paying for the paver work in full until the few spots of sharp pavers were fixed. Overall, the pool looks wonderful and it was the best priced renovation we were able to find. Mike is very knowledgeable about how pools operate and what renovations are best and needed. We wanted to add a water-falling hot tub to the side of our pool, Mike said it could be done but he warned about the high risk of severely damaging the whole pool when banging and drilling out to add a hot tub, and then the exuberant cost that would entail to repair. Our feeling is that Mike is a work in progress in learning to handle customer dis-satisfaction. We found that with time, patience, and approaching him nicely, he comes around to realizing what needs to happen for a customer to have a satisfying renovation. The initial disagreement of fixing the wrong grout color between the coping, was worth the well priced renovation from Mike with Bikini Pools, Inc.

    Pool Remodel
    $14,000
    50 days

We hired Mike Melton of Bikini Pools because he seemed like he ran an honest, independent small business and his quote was among the lowest we received from 4 other contractors. Not only did he not finish the work, he increased the bill ($800) due to his mistake in calculating the amount of pool tile we needed. He also attempted to have us pay $299 for shipping the travertine, which we paid to the travertine supplier. Mike became very verbally abusive when I disputed paying him the extra $800 and got in my face in an attempt to bully me. We reluctantly paid the "Final Bill" in full because we were going out of town for 10 days the next day and we felt bad that he "needed to pay his guys." He signed the final bill stating that the job would be completed, however, when we got back to our home, work was not done and Mike advised that I had to pay him an additional $250 to get the work completed. Notwithstanding the issues above, the workmanship was very poor and we need to have another company come out to fix/replace the deck drain, install tiles and likely replace some of the travertine around the deck drain. STAY AWAY!!!!
