Be sure to look at the companies BBB. Be careful with this company, the owner lies about the work he plans to do to get the job. He went so thin on the majority of my driveway that it's not thick enough to support the weight of a car. A good bit of my driveway is an inch or less thick, with sections so thin he didn't even cover my gravel base, and instead just "painted" over it with sealer to hide it for the time being. That's fraud, no? He also sold me on sealing the driveway the same day stating that I wouldn't have to do anything to the driveway for 5 years if sealed. He says he seals 95% of the driveways he lays. Turns out after contacting every manufacture and distributor of Gilsonite asphalt sealer (the sealer he told me he used), they all told me that new asphalt should NOT be sealed until it has fully cured, stating to wait 90 days to 6 months at least before sealing. Sealing new asphalt too soon puts the asphalt at risk to not harden and remain soft for a longer period of time. So I paid $1600 for sealer to be applied to the asphalt he laid the same day. Seems like he's misrepresenting the sealer, no? My driveway was paved mid May of 2019, I would say the asphalt didn't seem to harden until November 2019. I'm also planning on sending out samples to be tested to see just what was in the sealer he used because I have a hunch he cut his sealer back with diesel to save cost. That would also be fraud.
Not only this, but he came last spring right after an all day rain, where the weather was in the low 70's and the ground hadn't hardened up. He forced his skid steer up my gravel driveway at the time, leaving big ruts. When I came home to the job complete, I found that he had dumped at least 4 scoops of mud/gravel from my driveway and had dumped it without asking me, on someone else's property. So he also ruined my gravel base. I had to later spread this pile out by hand.
The list of things he did wrong goes on and on, and these are all from the first time I walked on the driveway. From cracks, pools, rough patches, asphalt all over my retaining wall, leaving my road a mess. Heck, they couldn't even take the courtesy to wrap my hose up after I had ran a waterline just so he could have access to a hose. I didn't know I needed to be present for the whole process to babysit this contractor but apparently thats what was needed.
I'm not the only person who has had problems with this company also. I have spoke with 5 other customers of his to date and not a single one is happy with his work, with three of these customers having to have his work fixed. That doesn't include me needing my driveway entirely fixed while now being down $11,000. Whatever you do if you read this, DON'T GIVE THIS COMPANY ANY CONSIDERATION. YOU'LL REGRET IT.
