The team at Blackstock Pools went above and beyond our expectations when we contacted them about constructing a basic backyard pool during the pandemic. We were complete novices to pools when the boredom of the pandemic set in made us think of the idea.
We contacted Blackstock and met with Benjamin initially in June 2020, and he was very helpful in explaining the whole construction process and some of the features of Desjoyaux pools while staking off our backyard to show us some of the possibilities for pool design. Our lot isn't that big and has some access issues with only a little over 6 ft. between our house and the property line (with fences) on both sides and about 11 ft. of clearance between the neighboring houses. Woods run along the back of the lot as well. Benjamin assured us that it would not be an issue if we had to have access only from the side of the house, but also said they would work with our neighbors and the HOA to come up with the best possible solution.
We signed a contract in July after meeting with Benjamin again and viewing product samples and more information about Desjoyaux. He explained the project timeline very clearly and accounted for the permitting backlog in Gwinnett County. He continued to keep us informed via text of the progress up until October 13 when they finally had everything in had and started construction. During that time, they spoke with both our neighbors and a representative from the HOA so that they could access our lot through a community common space and the neighbor's lot by taking down our fence. They also temporarily removed our fence along the back of the lot to allow for excavated dirt to be placed there.
Within a week of the first excavation work, the pool forms had been set and filled with concrete and the floor of the pool had been poured. Danny, Benjamin, and all of their staff and subcontractors were nothing but nice and took care with their work and explaining the progress as they went along. We were able to talk with both Danny and Benjamin to discuss different variations to the items surrounding the pool, and they were very helpful in workin through the feasibility of our different ideas every time we thought of something that deviated from our original plans. They worked with us to come up with a deck solution that would provide maximum benefits for our budget and needs for the various animals that we have running around in the same area (three backyard chickens and three dogs). The coping was installed just before Thanksgiving, and the deck was poured on December 17. The liner was installed the first week of January, and the pool was filled nine days later.
The best part about working with Danny and Benjamin was their support through the process and afterwards. Benjamin walked us through the operations of the pool, and Blackstock arranged for starter pool maintenance by Paradise Pools (which also provided excellent service). There ended up being a small issue with one of the parts in the control unit for the pump, but Benjamin always responded to our questions promptly and came personally to check on the issue until it was determined that a part was faulty and needed to be replaced. Since that point, our pool has operated as advertised and had been very simple to maintain due to the one box Desjoyaux setup. Blackstock also provided us with a great quote for a pool cleaning robot and a referral for deep water chaise loungers to sit on the shelf.
We would absolutely not hesitate in using Blackstock Pools for any future upgrades or new construction here or in another home.
