Barbara Berntsen did what more people should do – she actually listened to her mother’s advice. She followed her heart and created her own her own company. In the summer of 1993 she conceived her own business and made her dream a reality. She named her company Blue Dolfin Interiors after the hand painted dolphin that identifies her cabin, built a century ago as a crabber’s cottage on the remote side of Commencement Bay.
Blue Dolfin Interiors is a respected name among local designers, architects, contractors and customers. Its reputation is growing steadily. Although residential remodels are the backbone of Barbara’s business, she also has several commercial accounts.
Barbara’s versatility and creativity is easily seen in the variety of projects she has taken on. She’s done makeovers of mansions and painted prisons. She’s refurbished sailboats and has reconstructed entire houses. Along with versatility, Barbara has a unique way of running her business. She creates her own designs, but also acts as the general contractor and supervises projects to their completion.
Blue Dolfin Interiors works with a handpicked team of craftsmen to execute the jobs Barbara plans. Most of her new projects come from customer referrals; however, she also markets her services through special events. In addition, she offers services and consulting right from her storefront located at 1102 “A” Street Ste 2, in the Historic Perkins Building across from the Downtown Tacoma Post Office.
When she isn’t remodeling interiors, Barbara is working in her garden which has been featured in Sunset magazine.
