My husband and I got a quote from Brass Key Custom Homes to build our retirement home. We gave them floor plans, inspiration photos and 3 pages of detailed noted on our project. The quote they gave us was way too low. After questioning it, we were told they based the quote on their show-home - which is nothing like our project. We asked them for a more accurate quote to include our project details. They agreed to provide this quote for a $16,000 fee. Stupidly, we paid it. They took SIX MONTHS to give us a new quote. During this time, I had to repeatedly ask for update and he would say things like, "yeah, I need to get that." I finally had to threaten them to give our money back (this is all documented). The next week we got an emailed one-page quote with numbers that didn't even add up. These people are horrible at communication and don't listen at all. Our project was clearly put on their back-burner until we forced them to do their job. They never called us to follow up on the quote or anything - they just don't give a damn. If they were ethical, they'd return most of our fee.
Highly recommend you look elsewhere for a builder who will make your project a priority and actually listen to what you say.
