They say you're only as good as your last job. Our job was a remodel of 60% of the livable space in our home. The first couple months went fairly well. Then the mood changed, and when the job ran 3 weeks over things got very sour.
Turns out Brian failed to mention that he was retiring and moving to Ohio (lookout Ohio!). Around the third month of our job he started behaving very unprofessionally with us, saying things like "I can't wait for this job to be over.", "This job has been a losing proposition.", "I'm not making a dime on this job.", and "I'm bleeding money on this job."
He got into a profanity laden verbal altercation, in our house and with my wife home, with the flooring subcontractor he'd hired, a man who later went out of his way to help us because he couldn't believe what Brian had done. He was similarly rude to several of the painters he'd hired, within our presence.
To make matters even worse, the job was still 2 weeks from done when he just disappeared and disconnected his business phone. I never got a final walk-thru, had to arrange for and pay for various finish work. Was hit with a large bill for change orders that he never submitted to me in writing... the list of grievances can go on for a while.
This is a case where a contractor's integrity (if he had any to begin with), went flying out the window when my job inconvenienced his plans. My wife and I found his behavior in those final weeks deplorable and the mood on our job site (our HOME!) rapidly went from happy and excited about our home improvements to disgust and a strong desire to never see this man ever again. Hire him at your own risk.
